This story was all about social anxiety and being introverted and lonely in a new city with no friends. It was so relatable and she was able to put all my thoughts into words. It felt like I was listening to my friend talk to me. I realize now I might write out her whole book, but she is awesome and this book is soooo much fun!

Mindy handles it with her trademark wit and grace but makes some other really great points about the things you give up or have to negotiate about too. interests may change, people may grow, things may shift, but one thing is for certain: i will always love mindy kaling. and while i liked the first of this little series enough and even found some moments entertaining, the rest and especially the last to essays/stories of this a little series makes me think that kaling is an incredible insecure and jealous and at the same time self absorbed and selfish person that believes that everything she does should could more because she did it. I’m the kind of person who would rather get my hopes up really high and watch them get dashed to pieces rather than wisely keep my expectations at bay and hope they are exceeded. Kaling is one hundred percent right that most people getting labelled as big shots are white men so it's awesome that she's getting out there and shattering expectations that a woman of color can't be a big shot, too. you might love this if you are a huge fan - or as kaling herself states it in the book “are obsessed with her” this might be wonderful for you.There was something about the unexpectedly kind way she said that that made me happy to be with her, and not them. For some reason, I immediately thought about how my parents had always been especially fond of Mavis, and here was this moment when I understood exactly why: she was a good person. It felt so good to realize how smart my parents had been all along. “Are you kidding me?” I said. “We have to go home and film this sketch.”

I think the essay about her baby nurse "Help Is on the Way" was my favorite overall. Kaling touches on her mother's death and what having a newborn is actually like. All the essays made me laugh but that one also came pretty close to making me cry. What do we fight about? I wish I could say they were big, smart, philosophical issues about writing or comedy, but sometimes they’re as small as “If we do that cold open where Kevin dumps a tureen of chili on himself, I will quit this show.” We did that cold open, by the way, and it was a hit, and I’m still working at the show. I can get a little theatrical.”

It has been said many times, but it is true: Steve Carell is a very nice guy. His niceness manifests itself mostly in the fact that he never complains. You could screw up a handful of takes outside in 104-degree smog-choked Panorama City heat, and Steve Carell’s final words before collapsing of heat stroke would be a friendly and hopeful “Hey, you think you have that shot yet?” Ok, I officially have a girl crush on Mindy Kaling. She is just so cool. I love the fact that she is completely honest about all her failings and even embraces them. This would definitely be the type of person I would want to be friends with. This book was extremely funny and a light, easy read. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh. I especially loved her list for alternate titles to the book (The Girl with No Tattoo, Harry Potter Secret Book #8... hilarious). In Never Have I Ever, I get to experience what my white friends have had for their entire lives. A character who has many similar experiences to me – I too got a nose ring as an act of teen rebellion only to be celebrated by my parents as an act of Indian femininity – but who isn’t trying to be every brown girl. Because she’s not the only brown girl in the show: there are multiple culturally diverse lead characters, each with their own complex storyline.
