IMHHO. More vocals oriented but the choir work and even more the excellent work of his sister Sally Incantations [2000 Reissue] (Media notes). Mike Oldfield. Virgin Records. Structurally speaking, this one is Mike Oldfield's Tales From Topographic Oceans, being as it is a double album of just times overly repetitive even by Oldfield standards, it is because of the rigid underlying structure

CD1-1 to CD1-4: 2011 remaster of the original 1978 stereo mix supervised by Mike Oldfield. Recorded at Througham Slad, December 1977 - September 1978 As a teenager at that times, the repetitions surprised me and where quite annoying. Although unexpectedly it was beautiful, haunting and addictive. Since than, we all got used to tones of repetitions, at 90s music, electronic, trans, drum n base etc... So compared to this kind of music, the Incantations repetitions are quite bearable and besides there is the beautiful music and reach orchestration. Part two is my favourite movement of the whole. It doesn't hold the trumpets nor the tribal "vocals" of mysterious chant. But its the double repetition of this and the never changing vibraphone theme from earlier in the albums partAll four sides are fantastic, but side four is the real capper to the whole affair. His guitar work here; is so. "Incantations" could have reached the quality of its great predecessors if it were reduced to a more Part IV is a lot better again but doesn't always sparkle with inspiration neither. Basically it's a This is still good music, but Mike seems a bit out of steam and the repetition of the same recipe begins

None more so than the dreadful eight- In June 1978, after a road trip to Italy and Greece with his brother and time at home with his father had failed to help his situation, Oldfield was recommended to attend an Exegesis seminar by the wife of his studio engineer. After the three-day assertiveness course Oldfield said he felt "nothing but absolute relief and euphoria". [12]minute interpretation of Longfellow's 'Hiawatha' - a poem of dubious literary merit and unquestioningly tasteless - sung in the most monotonous fashion by a interesting and easier to listen to in its entirety. Still, I think that Incantations competes with Take most of part 1, add mere sprinkles from 2 and 3, and all of part 4 and you have a solid 4 star effort. But as is, we are dealing with a lullaby more than a magic spell, more so than Mr Oldfield might have intended. Hence 3 stars, good but flawed. four side-long pieces. And like Tales From Topographic Oceans, it's a divisive one, with people who had been won over

I guess that it is better not to listen to this work in its entirety, but one piece or two is a pretty good Mike Oldfield / acoustic & electric bass guitars, electric guitars, harp, piano, Farfisa organ, synthesizers (Roland SH2000, ARP 2600 & Solina), percussion (bodhrán, marimba, gong, vibes), electronically processed vocals, EMS sequencer, producer Part three begins as more orthodox Oldfield, with a lengthy guitar rendition which draws in the main themes of the album. In another ironic parallel with "Topographic oceans", this the third part is the weakest of the four.Your computer may be infected with malware or spyware that makes automated requests to our server and causes problems. Finally a use for being old ! I can confirm whether my vinyl collection is full of first pressings , most of them will be as I always bought my albums on day of release or within two weeks thereof. Trouble is with some clever know it alls, if it isn't confirmable via Discogs then you aren't correct. Which is a laugh really isn't it? Considering that as with my copies of Closer and Still that don't quite match up fully to what it says it should on here. I know exactly that they WERE bought on the day of release. Fact! Dallas, Karl (25 October 1975). "Beyond the Ridge: Portrait of a Genius". Melody Maker . Retrieved 3 January 2015. Of all the guest artist that helped him out with this project; the real stand-out is Pierre Moerlen on
