About this deal

Stanton has written nine books in the Mr Gum series, published by Egmont Books in the UK and illustrated by Tazzyman: The plot is all about Mr Gum taking a dislike to a dog because it messes up his garden. If Mr Gum’s garden is untidy, he gets hit on the head by a fairy. So Mr Gum tries to poison the dog. But don’t worry, there are plenty of heroes to save the dog. Shabba me whiskers! It’s that bestselling and award-winning first ever Mr Gum book by Andy Stanton. The Mr Gum books are only the craziest, funniest most best books for children in the whole wide world. Mr Gum and the Cherry Tree is the seventh in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies. Yes, folks, Polly and Friday are facing their biggest challenge yet. So strap yourselves in, cry ‘HI-HO-WEIRDY!’ and get ready for an adventure so crazy your feet will melt with happiness! And I’m not just saying that, I’ve actually seen it happen. HOORAY!

Mr Gum is not the only interesting character in this tale. All the characters in the book are odd with their silly names and their silly ways of speaking. Wait till you meet Peter the girl, Martin Launderette, who ran the Launderette and Billy William, who speaks ‘funty’. a b c Ingström, Pia (17 September 2015). "Sluka, kladda, läs!". Hufvudstadsbladet (in Swedish). p.24. Good evening, children, on this dark and windy night. Now, come gather round the fireplace, for ‘tis time for strange tales to be spun. The books have won numerous prizes including the 2007 Red House Children's Book Award, two Blue Peter Book Awards for Best Book With Pictures, [5] and the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2008 for Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear. [5] Children's books about miserly, nasty, no good, rotten old men go one of two ways. Either the old man is redeemed at the end and Tiny Tim lives, etc. etc. or you get to the end of the book and the miserly, nasty, no good, rotten old man hasn't changed a jot. He's just been thwarted. A kind of Count Olaf ending, if you will. The nice thing about Andy Stanton's Mr. Gum books is that they're written with a two-dimensional villain in place with whom you never, at any point, sympathize. Stanton is a fan of goofiness and is willing to pile a whole bunch of weirdness on top of itself in the hopes that there will be enough funny material to keep the kids ah-reading. For the most part, You're a Bad Man, Mr. Gum! works and even when it doesn't it just seems to be so pleased with itself that you can't help but feel some affection for it. This isn't the strongest silly book for kids I've ever read, but it has its heart in the right place. What’s for Dinner, Mr Gum? is the sixth in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies. Andy Joel Stanton (born 14 November 1973) is an English children's writer. Kolirin, Lianne (26 January 2014). "What next for Andy Stanton, much-loved children's author?". www.thejc.com . Retrieved 11 October 2022. Good evening. Talking parrots in the rooftops? A giant cactus on the high street? Mosquitoes so nasty that even their own friends don’t like them? Something’s gone terribly wrong in Lamonic Bibber… and Mr Gum is nowhere to be found.

Readers will feel quite involved in the fast-paced, crazy plot because the author really includes them. He comments, ‘Actually, I think we’d better have a new chapter,’ and ‘you will have to wait till chapter seven to find out. That is what is known as suspense.’ Mr Gum is a wildly random tale of a positively Dahlian nasty-old-man. The humour has a Python-esque feel to it and delights in running along abstract corridors of word association. Jacques, Adam (11 August 2012). "How We Met: Marianne Levy & Andy Stanton". The Independent . Retrieved 11 October 2022. For be warned. This audiobook is full of swords and trolls and witches and a thing that looks like a gherkin. And somehow that old roo-de-lally Mr Gum is all mixed up in it too. Shabba me whiskers, it’s a burpin’ epic!

a b Chilton, Martin (26 September 2011). "Andy Stanton and why the truth is a lemon meringue". www.telegraph.co.uk . Retrieved 11 October 2022. Not an excellent time, mind you, but a good time. Celyn laughed like a drain, we both smirked. Mr Gum's nastiness was foiled. The big whopper of a dog did not die of poison. All was well. Like the tale of Polly and that old tumbledown windmill by the riverside. But just what is the windmill’s terrible secret? Why is Mr Gum lurk-lurk-lurkin’ about? And how much does Old Granny know? Millä tahansa numerolla aloititkin, ajattelet nyt ihmeellistä puutarhaa. Ja juuri niin ihmeellinen oli herra Gummin puutarha. I get to read a lot of children's books in my 3rd job as carer for my very disabled 8 year old, Celyn. She can't see well or play, so stories is where it's at.Buy it by all means. I got Celyn another Mr Gum book for Christmas and we're enjoying that one too. Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear is the fifth in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies.

But are you brave enough to join Polly and Friday as they climb Goblin Mountain to battle the forces of evil? It's silly, surreal, often abstract, did I mention silly? And it works enough of the time to pull you through the book and deliver the promised good time. It’s barking bonkers! The sixth sensational Mr Gum story, read by the author and with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old And there’s a funfair and hot dogs, and Friday O’Leary shouts out some crazy stuff, and... hey, that wasn’t so hard to describe after all! See ya!And an angry fairy who lives in his bathtub. And Jake the dog, and a little girl called Polly and an evil, stinky butcher all covered in guts. And there’s heroes and sweets and adventures and EVERYTHING. Good evening. OK, this book’s a bit hard to describe. There’s this gingerbread man with electric muscles, see? And he’s rich as a mushroom, right? And Mr Gum and Billy William are planning to get the cash, yeah? And it’s up to Polly to save the day. Shabba me whiskers! It’s the fourth fantastic Mr Gum story, read by the author and with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old Bennion, Chris.
