About this deal

A Firewire 400 to 800 adapter that supports Apple computers. (Only if you have a Firewire 400 device because there is no adapter available for Firewire 400 to USB C).

While Thunderbolt capability can be added to some motherboards via a PCIe card such as this ASUS model, note that it’s not quite as straightforward as adding USB or Firewire ports in this way: usually, a dedicated header is required on the motherboard.

Let’s take an example of my MOTU 896 Firewire which is known as a legendary audio interface when it comes to conversion quality.

Then connect the Thunderbolt 2 adapter to the Thunderbolt 3 (USB C adapter) and finally connect the USB (Thunderbolt side) to your Macbook or any other Mac computer.Thunderbolt 3 can be used for several types of data transfer works and also works with USB-C devices. Even USB-C Cables can be used as Thunderbolt 3 as long as you use good-quality cables. Because FireWire and USB connectivity is similar to the use of cables and ports, a mistake may be made in thinking that USB and FireWire are different versions of the same technology. However, the truth is that they have largely different abilities, with FireWire having a few advantages of USB connection. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY. The Software is provided “AS IS” without warranty of any kind, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. If your device is Firewire 400 compatible then connect the device with Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 adapter. The first advantage that FireWire has over USB is its speed. Both are competitive in the speed of data transfer, but in the case of FireWire 800, the speed of data transfer is much greater when compared to USB. Additionally, FireWire also transfers more data than USB, which makes it a more useful connection on devices such as digital cameras.

In general, it's best to assume that any 'Type C' ports on any computer are USB 3.1 only unless the Thunderbolt logo appears next to them ( ) or this is stated by the manufacturer. Below is a summary of Focusrite product compatibility with each port type: LICENSE TO USE COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS. A key advantage of Thunderbolt for some of us is that it is protocol-compatible with Firewire, and it maintains a lot of the same feature set. This means that you can usually connect older Firewire devices to your computer Thunderbolt-equipped computer via a suitable adaptor which, given the number of Firewire interfaces still in use, is potentially great news — it might even breathe new life into older interfaces that you’ve abandoned when moving to a machine without Firewire ports! Most USB-C devices can be used with a Thunderbolt 3 cable so you can use USB-C audio interfaces like Motu M-4 and other USB-C compatible peripherals with any device that has a thunderbolt-3 connection.

Many users have expressed surprise at the relatively slow uptake of USB 3 by audio-interface manufacturers, and it’s only in recent months that we’ve started to see more than the first couple of USB 3 models brought to market. While USB 3 does offer some advantages, there are several good reasons for the apparently slow progress. ASSIGNMENT. You may not delegate, assign or transfer this Agreement, the license(s) granted or any of Your rights or duties hereunder, expressly, by implication, by operation of law, or otherwise and any attempt to do so, without Intel’s express prior written consent, will be null and void. Intel may assign, delegate and transfer this Agreement, and its rights and obligations hereunder, in its sole discretion. USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3/4 both use a 'Type-C' connector, however, they are different protocols despite the fact that the ports themselves are identical. BUT, not all Firewire to USB-C adapters are compatible with the new iMac. So in this guide, you will learn how to connect Firewire to USB C devices. Every generation provided us with more speed and data accuracy. BUT, with time our favorite hardware becomes outdated just only because of connectivity upgrades.
