Yes we have seen some lighter devices, but those are often plastic and toy-like with very little power. We like to use the Ekrin Bantam as our benchmark for the perfect mini massage gun. The Bantam weighs 1.1 pounds – Theragun mini finally catches up! We voted the tiny Bantam the best mini gun, but Theragun mini 2 is finally catching up!

There are four devices in the latest Theragun range: the Theragun Mini, Theragun Prime, Theragun Elite and Theragun Pro. New to percussive therapy and not sure where to begin? No problem. You can link the Mini with the extensive Therabody app for a variety of tutorials and guided routines to get the most out of your massager. The percussion range is 2000-3200RPM. The faster percussions make it much harder to stall than mini 2. Ekrin Bantam is tiny but mighty. We simply love it.

This change was eagerly anticipated by us, especially since we’ve seen that 90% of mini massage guns we’ve tested now come with USB-C charging. So Therabody is catching up with competitors. We finally have a convenient USB-C charging. The Hypervolt Go 2 may be considered the natural alternative to the new mini 2 due to the rivalry between the two giant brands. This one has a more classic look – it looks more like the Bantam but larger. The new mini and Ekrin Bantam are true mini massagers. The Go 2 is bigger and heavier.Its battery is Samsung-branded and can go for 3-4 hours on a single charge when used normally. It also charges via USB-C.

It has a tad less than 10mm amplitude but way more percussions to keep the intensity high and remain effective.Its other big feature is Bluetooth connectivity, which allows you to connect the Theragun to the free Therabody app on your smartphone. By doing this, you can run a range of preset routines and see if you’re applying the correct amount of pressure while using the gun. The Therabody Prime, Elite, and Pro go a step further with Bluetooth connectivity, which automatically sets the gun to the appropriate PPM and tells the user when they’re applying an optimal amount of force. This is a very helpful feature for those of us without a lot of massage gun experience and allows even the non-athlete to fully reap the benefits from their Theragun. But isn’t the new Theragun mini just a smaller variation of mini 1? Indeed it is; you’ll still have problems holding it for longer. When you're browsing the best massage guns, ideally your purchasing priorities should centre on noise control, battery life and quality.

We like what we see. Everything feels premium, as expected. The build quality is still top-notch, and it’s even better now that it’s not oversized. We’ll discuss more in ergonomics. The Therabody app has recently been launched and mainly functions as a library of routines you can follow using your Theragun device. Some models can even connect to the app using Bluetooth, not the mini, though, but you can still follow the 'protocols' – as the app puts it – manually.

This device offers a lighter touch, so it’s better suited to less intense recovery sessions or general R&R in front of the telly. On that note, it was one of the quietest models we tried, scoring almost full marks in our noise tests. As we mentioned before, the Theragun is considered to be the gold standard of massage guns in the same way that the GoPro is the gold standard of action cameras. The main reason for this is because the company claims that it’s able to “reach 60% deeper into the muscle than average massage guns”.
