About this deal

The ending brought a smile to all of our faces, the perfect combination of fun, peril and magic with friends, family and love. Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Year 2 in a zip file based on Rachel Bright’s ‘The Way Home for Wolf’ (author of ‘The Lion Inside’). This unit features work on prediction, inference, sequencing, clarification and retrieval skills. This story looks at how we all need the helping hand of a friend from time to time. The book is aimed at 1-5 year olds and I read this to my 5 year old daughter and (nearly) 8 year old son and they both loved it equally. In fact, Logan loved it so much he declared he was going to write a book review about it straight after.

At first everything seems dramatic, but then something happens and I was so happy for our tiny wolf. He is getting a nice lesson that it isn’t only about him and that he should also trust in others. Sometimes you need a hand finding your way. Oh Oh, can I pet that cute butterfly/moth? That one was just adorable. A really fantastic children’s story book, that we all absolutely loved. Such gorgeous illustrations and a truly lovely feel good story, that delivers a great message with it. I can fast see this becoming a favourite on our bookshelves. Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations and a cacophony of quirky prints and etchings. Illustrated by Jim Field, the book is full of absolutely wonderful illustrations. In my opinion, the pictures in a children’s book can make or break them, and the ones in The Way Home for Wolf are stunning. Full of colour, atmosphere and fun. Oh, and I cannot forget the amazing illustrations by Jim Field, he is really one amazing illustrator.

Her work aims to capture a free way of thinking - one which makes you feel anything is possible, a feeling all too easily lost with the end of childhood. When we’re all grown-up, sometimes we just need a little nudge to remember it’s been there all along. I am sure kids will love this one. It has a cute wolf, some excitement and adventure, and then a sweet ending. There are lots of characters from different stories in the book, e.g. the big, bad wolf, the woodcutter, gigantic giant. Can you think of other books that they appear in?Design a new playground for Claire to play in. Can you think of different safety features to reduce the chance of children hurting themselves? Draw a map showing Claire’s route home and the people that she met along the way. How far might she have travelled? I really liked the variety of animals included, simply because it’s such an easy way to introduce little ones to animals that they may not be familiar with, just by reading the story. I even learned a new animal myself as I had never heard of a bear-moth! I loved the message in this book as it is one that many children can identify with, the wish to be grown-up, to be brave, to be brilliant. To be bigger than they are. When they still need to learn and listen. It is also one of friendship, kindness and love. When Wilf loses his way it is the kindness of others that helps him and that is something we can all learn from.
