Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American animated musical romantic fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is based on the 1756 fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont (who was only credited in the French dub), [6] while also containing ideas from the 1946 French film also of the same name directed by Jean Cocteau. [7] The film was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise (in their feature directorial debuts) and produced by Don Hahn, from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton. Originally, Mrs. Potts was to appear in the first installment of the now-discontinued Disney Princess Enchanted Tales franchise. In the chapter "Kingdom of Kindness," she was to sing a song with Belle called " You'll Never Lose This Love" to calm Chip after he broke some of the Beast's items. Jo Anne Worley as the Wardrobe, [23] the castle's authority over fashion, and a former opera singer, who has been turned into a wardrobe. The character of Wardrobe was introduced by visual development artist Sue C. Nichols to the then entirely male cast of servants, and was originally a more integral character named "Madame Armoire". Wardrobe is known as "Madame de la Grande Bouche" (Madame Big Mouth) in the stage adaptation of the film and is the only major enchanted object character whose human form does not appear in the film. Tony Anselmo served as the supervising animator for the Wardrobe. Monsieur Toilette is a servant of the Beast who was turned into a toilet. His scene was cut from the film, but is featured in the deleted scenes. About Chip Potts

After the events of the film and the abolition of the curse, Belle and the prince holding a Christmas party at the castle, during which the prince's former disdain towards Christmas was mentioned, but the journey to his change of heart seemed to have been forgotten. This leads Mrs. Potts to narrate the story of the time when Belle finally broke the prince's hatred for Christmas. In the Belle's Magical World segment "Mrs. Potts' Party," Chef Bouche is instructed by Belle to bake a cake for Mrs. Potts. Even though he ran into difficulty, Chef Bouche succeeded in making the cake as he and the kitchen staff help Belle present it to Mrs. Potts. Exclusive to the 2017 live-action film, Maestro Cadenza is the husband to the opera singer Madame de Garderobe and is the castle's court composer. At the time of his servitude to the Prince, Cadenza was suffering from dental problems. Cadenza is turned into a harpsichord by the Enchantress' spell on the castle while his wife is turned into a wardrobe. As a result, when he tries to play, he makes the occasional sour note due to the cavities in his teeth, but struggles through the pain in hopes of returning to his human form and reuniting with his wife. Mrs. Potts again plays the same role as she did in the film, only here she is depicted as a woman turning into a teapot instead of being one that can walk and talk. It is left ambiguous in the original staging whether she pairs with Maurice or not as in the Disney on Ice version, as she comes in dancing with him at the beginning of the finale, but in the final tableaux, they are standing apart, with her posing with Chip. The Wardrobe is a former opera singer, turned into a wardrobe. The character of Wardrobe was introduced by visual development person Sue C. Later as the prince is transformed into a hideous beast as punishment, Mrs. Potts and all the other castle residents are transformed into objects as the spell is cast all around the castle. Production of Beauty and the Beast was to be completed on a compressed timeline of two years rather than the traditional four-year Disney Feature Animation production schedule; this was due to the loss of production time spent developing the earlier Purdum version of the film. [13] Most of the production was done at the main Feature Animation studio, housed in the Air Way facility in Glendale, California. A smaller team at the Disney-MGM Studios theme park in Lake Buena Vista, Florida assisted the California team on several scenes, particularly the "Be Our Guest" number. [15] A bootleg version of Mrs. Pott makes a cameo on a DVD cover cover "Beauty and the Cursed Dog Man" in Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, her bootleg form resembles more to a tea jug than a teapot, her eyes are round-shaped with smaller pupils but no visible eyelashes, and only has two visible front teeth. In the 2017 live-action adaptation, LeFou is portrayed by Josh Gad. In the version with Gad, the character is gay, becoming the first homosexual in a Disney film. [4] This version is also portrayed in a sympathetic manner, becoming visibly uncomfortable with Gaston's behavior as the latter becomes more unhinged and villainous over the film's course. In one scene, LeFou helped Gaston to break up the headmaster leading the villagers into destroying Belle's laundry invention by shooting the gun in the air twice with the second time having a cow accidentally killed. Unlike in the original 1991 animated film during the fight at the Beast's castle, he saves Mrs. Potts when she falls from the chandelier and switches sides to helping the Beast's servants after Gaston abandons him while he takes a beating from the servants. One deleted scene had him given a bad encounter with Monsieur Toilette which causes him to run out of the room he was in. In another deleted scene following the spell being broken, LeFou runs into Monsieur Toilette's true form which identified from the bathroom smell. At the end of this version, he briefly dances with the (presumably gay) Stanley, who was also a friend and minion of Gaston's.
