About this deal

Attract nobles: Once a player has acquired a certain number of development cards, they become eligible to attract nobles. Noble tiles have a specific gem and development card requirement. If a player meets the requirements, they can attract the noble and earn additional prestige points. Buy one development card: When you buy a development card, first select which card you want to buy. It can be one of the face-up cards on the table or one that you previously reserved and which now sits in your hand. To buy a development card, you have to spend the gem tokens indicated in the bottom-left of the card. While gem tokens are all worth one of their colour, a gold token can replace one gem of another colour. Additionally, each development card you have already bought reduces the cost of subsequent development cards by one gem of its colour.

At that point, the winner is crowned the most Splendiferous player and then it’s a countdown to who suggests playing again! Haha The development and noble cards have a number written on the top-left corner called the prestige point. Gem Tokens (Total = 40)The noble cards are shuffled and one card is removed for each player, another card is added and placed over the topmost row. (For 4 players, 5 cards are placed). Splendor Rules and Game Guide On How To Play Sometimes there’s an opening for grabbing many cards of one color. This often daisy-chains up the rows and can lead to a lot of points when the right cards show up. Each row has cards of a color that cost X amount of that same color. Same with the top row. If you see a lot of greens, reds, or blues on board, while others are looking for a widespread hand you may be able to win by getting many cards of one color and just grabbing high point cards.

I played Splendor Duel multiple times to get a sense for its mechanics and their longevity, including how it compared to the original Splendor - particularly with regard to that game's two-player matches. The overall concept is simple: the first player at 15 points or above initiates the “end of game phase.” Every player gets the same amount of turns so the round is finished up and whoever has the most points wins. This does mean that if the first player to go gets 15 points in a 4-player game, the other players get their last turn and can result in one of them getting more points and winning the game. That’s the theme for today’s review of Splendor. This easy to learn game made waves this year when it was nominated for the prestigious Spiel des Jahres award. Ultimately, the game fell short of winning this coveted prize, but that didn’t stop it from flying off the shelves. Is Splendor a game that needs to be in your library? Let’s find out! In Splendor, players take on the role of jewellery merchants competing for fame and, well, splendour. Each turn a player will acquire new jewels or spend some stones to grow their gem empire. You might start by building a diamond mine in the snow-white mountain peaks, but soon enough you’ll be opening your own ruby-red shop in the capital. Skilled players might even attract the attention of wealthy patrons, which is sure to raise their renown even further. Players may not have more than three reserved cards in hand, and the only way to get rid of a card is to buy it.

Now take all the jewel tokens and throw them in the bag. Give them a jiggle, and draw 25 out one by one, placing them on the central board following the arrow spiral. The bag can go to the side of the board. When collecting gems, you have further two options; take 3 gems of different colors or 2 gems of the same color. The condition for the latter is that there should be at least 5 available gems in the reservatory, otherwise the player[5] will be left only with the former option. These gems are the lifeblood of the game and it’s important to make sure to have a good array of gems available so you can buy the development cards for permanent gems in your hand.

With 2 players: 3 tokens of each gem color except gold are removed (there should be only 4 of each remaining). When a player collects several development cards, the player might be able to attract the attention of a Noble. This basically means that a player might be eligible to earn a noble card if he/she owns the number and type of development cards mentioned on the noble.Pretty standard board. Early on I’m looking for red and green gems because of the Nobles, and the White and Green cards have the best potential in row one. Two Common Strategies for Development Cards Where it changes however is as soon as the first city tile is claimed that triggers the last round. At the end of the round you win if you are the only one with a City tile. If there are more than one claimed then you use prestige to break ties. So even if you are trailing in the score a judicious buying of Gem cards can sneak a victory for you. NB: your first Royal card needs 3 crowns but your second will need 6! So get collecting! Winning The Game There are emerald, sapphire, ruby, diamond, onyx, and gold gems, with the gold gems acting as a wildcard piece. Finally I should note that the box is oddly very big for the components inside. I’m guessing it was due to a cost saving measure, but the box could have easily been half the size it is. How to Play:

While the diversity of victory conditions feels like yet another welcome improvement on the original, enriching strategy and excitement as you sprint to get over the line, repeat plays suggest the new options fall a bit short. With both crowns and a single colour, you’re very much at the mercy of the card market; if what you’re collecting doesn't turn up, there’s nothing you can do about it. Take two gem tokens of the same color from the pool (provided, before the turn, there are at least four tokens left of that color). The more wealthy you are within the world of Splendor, the more likely it is for a honourable noble to come visit you. Set Up And How To Play With 3 players: 2 tokens of each gem color except gold are removed (there should be only 5 of each remaining). The digital version of Splendor faithfully adapts all the various elements of the Space Cowboys’ award-winning board game:While I don’t have young ones at home, I do think that Splendor make’s a great family game. The rules are easy enough to comprehend and the theme is completely family friendly. While I won’t be pulling Splendor off the shelf every day, it’s a great game to have around for the right moments. If you are looking for a lighter game that you can easily jump into, give this one a try. Splendor’s setup for two or three players is slightly different, as the game uses fewer gems and noble tiles. The number of gold tokens and development cards does not change with player count.
