Previous generations of Nextbase dash cams have been massively frustrating to use, often failing to provide a stable connection to transfer still images and video between phone and camera, but things have improved. The set-up process is still a little fiddly and time-consuming, and the Wi-Fi connection between devices sometimes fails, but we managed to retrieve some imagery and footage after a few attempts. Fortunately, What3Words is an excellent addition to the 622GW. The upgrade to the EmergencySOS feature on previous Nextbase dash cams allows drivers to easily tell emergency services where they are if they're involved in an accident or need help.faqaccordion article {padding-top: 0!important;font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em; padding-left: 0.7em; padding-right: 0.7em;} Super Slow Motion is a useful feature that's exclusive to the Nextbase 622GW. It enables you to play footage at a slower speed (120 frames per second at 1080p) to see precisely what occurred before and during an incident, as well as details like number plates. The feature is available on the MyNextbase Connect app on your smartphone orMyNextbase Player on a computer. This is the same night capture (non-headlight) shown above but brightened somewhat to prove that the 622GW captures detail exceedingly well.
In this respect, Garmin adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and alerts you if the vehicle in front sets off and you don’t. It also warns of upcoming speed and red light cameras. Although Garmin advertises a full 1440p resolution, we found the footage a little grainy at this res, but that’s only when you really punch in on the details. However, a wider 180-degree lens (as opposed to the 140-degrees on the Nextbase) captures far more out of the front windscreen and even to the left and right of the vehicle. The usefulness of these features is questionable, with most of these alerts coming in the form of indecipherable bleeps. However, the addition of voice control is good and by uttering the words “Okay Garmin”, you can instruct the camera to save important footage or take a picture, for example. Operating temperatures for the 622GW are -22 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The mount connects straight into the front of the 622GW using a strong magnetic attachment, while the charging cable plugs directly into the camera or the mount. Resolution is a highly impressive, crystal clear 4k @ 30fps. But you can opt for lower-res footage: 1440 @ 60fps or 1080p HD @ 120fps. In short, these latter options with a higher rate of frames per second (fps) - like 1440p @ 60fps - will mean lower resolution but smoother video. The lower-res footage takes up less memory space as the files will be smaller, too. Controlling the camera via Alexa “Skills” is also neat and it goes beyond simple camera functionality by also controlling other Alexa-enabled devices in the vehicle.
