About this deal

The image to the right shows that the pipe has been flattened by just under 0.4mm – the basic reason for this is that the formers are not quite correct for 4mm pipe or that there is a tendency for the two sides of the former to move apart during the forming process. I suspect that this is actually due to a combination of these: poor fit and forms coming apart. So, why do we use the Hilmore GLM tube benders, when there’s quite obviously others around the same price, and even more on offer for much less. There are some benders specifically suited to smaller pipe (8mm/10mm for instance), and we’ll cover those later. The 15mm 22mm pipe bender or tube bender is an essential part of the toolkit for any heating or plumbing engineer.

lighter in the hand than a combi. The Monument combi weighs more than 4kg; the XV weighs 1.5kg; the XXII weighs 2.3kg Problem? We’ve creased pipes (and had to junk that section) using cheap pipe benders multiple times. If you’re installing a whole run of heating/gas pipe, swapping out the guides is going to turn into a real bug-bear.A. If your pipe is thin walled and your equipment is not clean (Answered by Colin Stainer Plumbing & Heating on 27 Jan 2021) throating occurs on testing with the XV, XVE (XVL) XXII, XXIIE as well as Monument 2600K and a Hilmor® GLM Spare formers and guides are essential accessories for pipe benders, as they help to ensure accurate and consistent bends in pipes. Formers are shaped pieces of metal or plastic that are placed inside the pipe to help guide it as it is being bent. Guides are used to hold the pipe in place and prevent it from slipping or moving during the bending process. But when it comes to buying new ones, I guess it’s Silverline that stands out as the biggest contender to Hilmor. The grooves are nice and clean and the two parts of the former align cleanly and grip the pipe well.

There are several types of formers and guides available, including standard formers, multi-radius formers, and offset formers. Standard formers are used for making straight bends in pipes, while multi-radius formers are used for making bends with multiple radii. Offset formers are used for making bends that are offset from the center of the pipe. The single sizes of each bender with their shorter bending arms and lightweight aluminium die casting makes each bender lighter to carry and the design of the 15mm-XV is small enough to fit inside a toolbag.

The price differential between Hilmor compared with Stanley and Rothenberger is just too small, and Hilmor offer so much more in terms of quality. A. Cheap thin copper but even expensive copper ripples. But makes a big difference with running wire wool over the guides first. Keep them clean. Found the wee monument benders don’t ripple the pipe as much. Great wee benders (Answered by Roy Millar Plumbing and Heating on 26 Jan 2021) The nylon guides are integral to the pipe bender helping to ensure they don’t get lost or damaged in a toolbag. Codes for these spare guides are 1216N 15mm Spare Nylon Guide and 1223J 22mm Spare Nylon Guide. Usually, a lightweight product is a good thing. Take a cordless impact driver for instance. The lighter, the better.
