About this deal

We are going into a lot of depth here. As a result, we are going to split this section into an external hardware overview which is what one will see if they do not care about how the system works. We will then go into detail around the internal components and features before moving on to other sections of this review. HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus External Hardware Overview On the rear of the unit, a whole lot has changed. HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus And Gen10 Rear With DC PSU paper limit of 16TB doesn’t apply in real life of course. My config is 3x2TB RAID0 + 10TB (nightly scrubber), all 4 is 20dB (the max for any of my setups), even the big one from the brand called “WD” (first time trying this brand after 20years with Seagate only, they now offer 10-12TB drives with idle 20dB!) In our HPE MicroServer Gen10 Plus Review we are going to cover a lot of ground, so get ready. This compact server is designed to be smaller and higher performing than the previous generation. What we have found over a few weeks of working with the system in various configurations is that this is an excellent platform. Estimated delivery times are provided to us by the respective delivery companies. We pass this information onto you, the customer.

The other key feature we wanted to point out is with the two USB Type-A ports on the front of both units. The new MicroServer Gen10 Plus upgrades these to USB 3.2 Gen2 ports which means they are capable of 10Gbps operation. MicroServer Gen10 Plus v Gen10 RearI assume Freenas ZFS will give better numbers. Will continue tests with more use cases (different NAS systems, VPN gateway role, VM).

HPE iLO 5 standard and essential functionality (optional), remote monitoring, restore, and maintenance are now available. 1 It is supported by installing an optional iLO Enablement kit, which includes an HPE iLO dedicated port. HPE InfoSight and HPE OneView are also supported. With Oracle 80-20 the MicroServer hit a peak of 152,129 IOPS with a latency of 539µs before a slight drop. For those who are thinking that they can use the Pentium G5420 with its integrated GPU to drive output, we are sorry to disappoint you. That requires OEMs to do some extra and more costly work since Intel made some changes with this generation. As a result, the MicroServer Gen10 Plus does not have that feature. Final Words We like that HPE did not go with the lower-cost i340 here nor did HPE use the lower-cost i210’s. While network bandwidth has doubled, and HPE is using a higher quality NIC, one will have to use the expansion slot for 10GbE connectivity. Technically with a PCIe x16 slot, one can even use higher-speed adapters.

Working from Home & Hybrid Working

The DIMMs and expansion slots have swapped sides between the MicroServer Gen10 and Gen10 Plus. You can see how the density has increased significantly. HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus And Gen10 Ram Side Our energy supplier is working towards using 100% renewable electricity and is a Principal Partner of COP26 Taking a moment to see the roadmap, upon announcement of the new server, we dissected the spec sheet of the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus. We then did a piece on the MicroServer Gen10 Plus (or Gen10+) versus the older Gen10 revision. We are going to discuss that briefly below, but we wanted to show what this mid-generation change offers in terms of differences. Some have called that piece a review, which is something we disagree with. This piece will be our formal review of the MicroServer Gen10 Plus including common HPE options. Next in this series will be a more expansive view of what is possible. We have just shy of 20 CPUs we are testing in our MicroServer Gen10 Plus and that simply takes time. We also have various options to give you ideas regarding how you can take the server’s base and turn it into something truly unique to fit your, or your client’s needs. You can see the PCIe expansion slots have moved from vertical to horizontal. In the Microserver Gen10 there was a x8 and an x1 low profile slot combination. In the Gen10 Plus, this is a PCIe gen3 x16 slot on the riser and the top slot is for a dedicated iLO enablement kit. HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus Rear IO View With random 4K read, the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus started at 20,706 IOPS at only 143.3µs latency. The MicroServer stayed under 1ms until about 160K IOPS and peaked at 193,648 IOPS at a latency of 2.63ms.

Here’s a video of us installing the drives and Mellanox card, along with setting up the server in ESXi. system is so cold during testing, that i think of just turning off the fan or use fixed low noise low rpm one The HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus v2 server measures 4.68 in (11.89 cm) and can be placed either horizontally or vertically to fit different customer workspaces. A new piece with this generation is the PCIe and iLO riser which we removed to get to the motherboard on the Gen10 Plus. HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 And Plus Motherboards Out Of Chassis Riser Removed On Plus Looking at software support, HPE covers off on most of the popular options. Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and 2019 are on the list, along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.6, 7.7, 8.0, 8.1 and ClearOS. On the virtualization front VMware ESXi 6.5 U3 and 6.7 U3 are the supported options but require the Xeon E CPU.

Mr Memory are now collecting reviews on Google!

Continuing to add features such as a higher-end PCH and doubling bays may sound great, but then feature creep starts to bring it into HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen10 positioning. When we reviewed the ProLiant ML30 Gen10 we used an 8x 2.5″ model and that is based on a Xeon E platform as well. Our thought is that HPE is trying to service a specific market with the MSG10+ in the context of the company’s broader portfolio. HPE has an option for all-flash, it is simply a different server.

For VDI Linked Clone (LC) Boot, the MicroServer had sub-millisecond latency performance throughput with a peak of 60,364 IOPS and a latency of 977.3µs.

Mr Memory cares about your IT Infrastructure

VDI FC Initial Login saw the MicroServer with sub-millisecond latency performance until about 41K IOPS and a peak of about 45K IOPS at 1.25ms before dropping off more.
