About this deal

What we’re seeing here is the bane of Harley Quinn’s existence right now. There was a time when Harley could just be an insane, wayward criminal with or without the Joker, and it would be left at that. Ever since Harley broke out in the mainstream, however, she’s had to be a “good role model.” She needs to present messages of growth and empowerment for all of her female fans despite still being a crazy person prone to theft and murder at the best of times. Amanda’s work can also be seen outside the comic book community in such places as ABC’S Nightline, the New York Times, Mad Magazine, the new sci-fi Stan lee “So You Want to be a Superhero” series and the upcoming Disney Underdog movie character designs for film and television, character designs for the Los Angeles Avengers stadium football team and is featured in a Biography magazine commercial on A&E. Amanda does spot illustrations in “Revolver” magazine each month and has had a huge success with the JSA Powergirl miniseries in previous years, each issue going into 3rd printings. As to the stories themselves, I enjoy the ones that I actually read with care, these stories are humorous with a few fresh ideas here and there e.g. Harley Quinn and Catwoman all dressed up pretty and become fashion icons (or do they really?), Harley as a working girl, having business meetings with the Legion of Doom and the henchmen actually has an workers' union? Great! I like the story with Harley battling her way through the Hip Hop street battle version of the Riddler, Huntress, Bane, Two Face and last but not least, Scarface and Joker! You know how much I love when Scarface shows up! Plus the Goth.I.Am... or should I say, the Hip Hop version of Bruce Wayne/Batman is great too. LOL

That’s how I feel about Harley. Her crazy, violent, yet sympathetic clown persona is always going to work better when she’s a villain. That isn’t even getting into what I’ve said a million times now: it doesn’t make sense for Harley to be affirming that Joker is her ex and that she’s changed when she’s still using the same motif. However, that is not to say that you can’t tell an interesting story of Harley reforming, and that’s what this story is all about. Ryan Parrot Gets it Right Writers Amanda Conner (BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE) and Jimmy Palmiotti (JONAH HEX) and artists John Timms (Deadpool) and Chad Hardin (DEMON KNIGHTS) introduce the new character that will have Harley seeing red!

This story starts out okay. Paul Scheer is another writer who chooses to portray Harley as a criminal, but gives her a more cutesy voice (though the dialogue is a little so-so). Harley is greeted by Gaggy Galsworthy and another former Joker henchman. They say that they are inspired by her newfound independence and want to follow in her footsteps, proposing that all of them go on a jewel heist to show the Joker how great they can all be without him. The story isn't bad either, with lots of over-the-top violence, Harley's trademark humor, and unexpected twists and turns. The main Red Tool story is nice, but only makes up 3 of the collected issues. There's a one-off with Harley getting into it with off-brand transformers that was basically an excuse for over-the-top action and a lot of scatological humor (some of which actually managed to be funny, even). The final issue is the best, though, as Harley gets a chance to close out her New 52 era with a bit of meta recognition and a couple of nice moments with Ivy. I’ve reviewed and read so many bad Harley comics, I started to think no one could write the character anymore. I now see that the people who know how to write the character are RIGHT HERE! They just have to be given more of a chance.
