More positive news for the sector also saw Welsh single malts recently gain geographical indication (GI) status in the UK, while English whisky producers have also joined forces to propose a GI for the category. It wasn’t just Australian whiskies that took home the top gong. New Zealand’s Scapegrace Distilling Co won a Master for its Scapegrace Fortitude V, with its “light smoke on the nose and complexity” and “smooth palate with hints of smoke and sweetness”. Ahhh, the alure of the single barrel release. I’ll admit to anyone who asks that I’ve never been the biggest supporter of Starward, but I cannot elucidate exactly why. For my tastes, I will always prefer the romanticism of taking a chance on discovering a single barrel release that gives insight into what is coming straight out of the casks of a distillery. This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services.

Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Nose / Like we took bright flavours of red berries and orchard fruit and coated them in soft oak spice. While Starward might be the most well-known whisky from Mainland Australia, the most popular whisky from Tasmania is Sullivan’s Cove. Makers of many high-quality, noteworthy single malt whiskies, Sullivan’s Cove has won numerous awards for its Double Cask Tasmanian Single Malt. This non-chill filtered winner of the “Best Australian Single Malt” at the 2018 World Whiskies Awards gets its name from being matured in both French and American oak barrels. The result is a bold, rich, memorable sipper with notes of raisins, dried apricots, sweet caramel, maple candy, and toasted vanilla beans. It’s a sweet, fruity dram you won’t soon forget. The panels swapped Australasia for North America as Canadian whiskies were sipped next. Two Masters were given to Proximo Spirits for its Pendleton Original and Pendleton Midnight whiskies. The whisky behind window 19: Starward Nova

Perez Terrado offered some insight: “The flight showed the huge quality in the category, and there was plenty of oak influence and interesting maturation in warm climates. It shows good diversity and plenty of boldness on show.” Finish: Short to medium length finish that continues being very dry and tannic. It finishes on a note of red Pez candy and grape. The dry, winey forward finish makes you wonder if you have just taken a sip of wine rather than whisky.

No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. From the consumer’s perspective, consistency can cut both ways. We want to be able to walk into a shop and select a bottle with a familiar label, assured that we know more or less what the contents inside will taste like. We want whisky to taste the same as it did last go around, or as we remember it tasting years ago, the vicissitudes of time and fortune be damned. Far from stellar. “No va” translates into Spanish as “doesn’t go,” and unfortunately that’s the case with Nova. It doesn’t go to the stars, or anywhere good; it doesn’t really go much of anywhere at all. Chambers added: “Some lovely examples but also some that were a little mean and too woody. There also seems to be an obsession with bottling at high ABV. Some of these would benefit from being lower strength.”Whilst Martin Luther didn’t invent the printing press, he did use Gutenburg’s gift to the world to great effect. The proto-Protestant reformer, Luther’s “95 Theses” – published in 1517 – was a sliding doors moment in the life of the Advent Calendar, amongst other things. Buoyed by the success of his opening gambit, he followed up with a translation of the New Testament into German, which sold 5,000 copies in just two weeks, making him the world’s first best-selling author. The final European flight, New Make, saw two Golds go to two English producers: Spirit of Manchester for its One Point Six, and Ellers Farm for The Bairn.
