Google Duo is a trademark of Google LLC. Live sharing host is available only to S22 Series and Tab S8 Series users at product launch and will be provided to other Galaxy device users with Android S OS later on. Participants may need to upgrade to the latest Duo app to use live sharing. Where Apple now favors a smooth flat metal band around its phones, the Galaxy S22's aluminum frame offers a small, albeit pleasing curve, which some may find slightly more comfortable to hold for long periods than the iPhone 14. The phone is IP68 rated, which makes it water and dust-resistant. In practice, a drop in the sink is no big deal. Take professional-looking photos with the S22's Triple Lens rear camera. This includes 50MP Wide, 12MP Ultra Wide and 10MP Telephoto cameras that offer crystal-clear pictures. There’s also a 10MP front phone camera to give you flawless selfies. The AMOLED panel may measure only 6.1 inches, but it boasts a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, for smooth scrolling with supported content. There’s HDR10+, too, so that compatible TV shows display some extra-punchy colours. As mentioned previously, the diminutive size of the screen does take away from its impact while gaming, but it still holds up as a decent display. UK and Europe Zone data usage only. Part of Samsung’s trio of flagship models for 2022, in reality the Samsung Galaxy S22 is the most modest of the three, being the smallest in size and featuring triple rear camera sensors to the S22 Ultra’s quadruple offering. Network or Wi-Fi connection required. Each device should be registered with a single Samsung Account. None of this is to say the Galaxy S22 feels slow. It has more than enough power for casual mobile tasks (web browsing, app work) and extra juice for videos, games, 4K video shooting, and editing. The 8K video shoot was a stuttering disaster, but otherwise, we were pleased. When we benchmarked the Galaxy S22 against the S22 Ultra, we found the Geekbench scores to be essentially equal. Both phones’ scores are still generally lower than Apple's A16 Bionic’s, though. While the cameras of the Galaxy S22 are slightly better overall, there are some interesting things to note here as not the entire module is an upgrade over the previous model and there are some unexpected downgrades with some sensors. The overall sensor design is superior in the S22, which is always great to see - the main lens goes from 12 MP to 50 MP too. But then the telephoto lens goes from 64 MP to 10 MP for some unknown reason. At least the optical zoom is now bumped up to 1.3x here from 1.1x. We know that megapixels aren't everything, but it's still a huge drop in photo resolution. Still, the overall photo quality is very satisfying. For their enthusiasts, the Single Take and Dual View modes are still here too.
Products
The camera app includes a rather deep set of shooting modes and controls, many of them hidden under ‘More’ (typical of an Android phone). There's Pro mode, for instance, which gives you control over shutter speed, ISO (film speed in old-school camera-speak), focus point, and white balance.
