About this deal

Scotland’s infamous midges can bring misery to your holiday, especially if you’re not suitably prepared for them. There are an estimated 181 trillion midges in Scotland and for every square metre of ground in the Highlands there could be 250,000 eggs waiting to hatch and go on the hunt for their next meal of tasty human blood. Sodium Lactate Aqua — A natural salt formed from fermentation of lactic acid and dissolved in water. It improves the stability of the product by creating an undesirable environment for bacteria. The other benefit of sodium lactate is its high capacity for holding water. This will increase the moisture content of the skin.

Mosi-guard® Lemon Eucalyptus Roll-on contains cetearyl alcohol, a waxy solid, which we use as an emulsifier and emollient to improve the feel of the products on the skin and provide a moisturising effect Midge bites are very unpleasant and they have been known to bring grown men to tears, mainly because the resulting swelling is maddeningly itchy and can last for several days. The recommended product to achieve that goal is Smidge which uses a proven formulation that deters midges while also being safe to use, non-greasy, well-priced, and comes in a tough, easy-to-use container. Avon Skin So Soft is a beauty product that has been recommended as a midge repellent for years, which I always thought was an old wives tale until I tried it myself.

Have you ever thought about buying a naturally and sustainably sourced insect repellent butchanged your mind because you thought it might not work? Were you concerned that naturally derived products may not be tested as thoroughly asmore established, synthetic repellents? When it comes to Mosi-guard® Lemon Eucalyptus insect repellents you can put these concerns to rest. It’s only the females that bite as they need lots of protein to form their clutches of eggs, but while they mostly feed on cattle and wild animals they’re also quite happy to chow down on any passing human that comes within range whether young, old, male or female. Ensuring Mosi-guard® Lemon Eucalyptus products are ethically and sustainably sourced is very important to us.Citriodiol® is our own naturally and sustainably sourced active ingredient found in many well-known brands of insect repellent, including Mosi-guard® Lemon Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus Citriodora Oil is the essential oil used to make Citriodiol and it is produced in an environmentally and economically sustainable way. The process can vary on each plantation but in broad terms the following practices are followed: Growing the trees

Smidge keeps midges, mosquitoes, horseflies and other biting critters at bay for up to 8 hours with just one application and it’s also water-resistant, so if you feel the need to go wild swimming you won’t have to re-apply it. That’s me and my trusty bottle of Smidge at the Fairy Pools on Skye. The natural ingredient in Mosi-guard Lemon Eucalyptus Extra Spray is derived from the oil of the lemon eucalyptus plant. This has been extensively and rigorously trialled and has been approved by many international regulators to hold comparable efficacy to synthetic and chemical repellents. Butylene glycol — This solvent stops the active ingredient, Citriodiol®, from crystallising. It also helps to keep the skin moist and prevents bacteria growth. This is the go-to midge repellent to use in Scotland for several reasons, the first of which is this stuff simply works. I’ve been using Smidge for years and out of all the insect repellents I’ve used it’s the only one I always make sure I’ve got ready to go in my suitcase.

Waste leaves and surplus twigs are used to fire the boiler which produces the steam. No other fuel is required to run the boiler. In fact excess energy generated by the process may be used to run other equipment on the plantation. Waste leaves are also used to maintain the soil. Some of the waste leaves may be used to make dyes for fabric.Citriodiol® — The active ingredient comes from a botanical oil found in the leaves of the eucalyptus citriodora tree. This is responsible for the repellency of Mosi-guard® Lemon Eucalyptus products. The main component in Citriodiol® is p-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), making up at least 64% of the oil. The herbal component of this spray is Citriodol which is a 100% plant-based product that is biodegradable, and to date, there is no known accumulation of Citriodol in any public waterways. My other half swears by it so I thought I’d give it a go last year and… it actually works. No matter if I sat outside in the evening or walked through the Highlands in the early morning, midges seemed to avoid me whenever I used Avon Skin So Soft. Steareth-21 — A waxy solid derived from fatty alcohols. It is prepared from vegetable oils by hydrogenation. It emulsifies and disperses the oily materials into the water to form a stable emulsion.
