About this deal

So what does this mean if you’re a musician or a technician? Well, thanks to something called RTP-MIDI, it’s possible to send MIDI data over an Ethernet network; LOTS of MIDI data in actual fact. The iConnectivity mioXL USB MIDI Interface is a powerful interface for any singer-songwriter or composer. It features deep configuration options through updated Auracle software, which makes it easy to use and streamline your workflow on the go. Use your 22 network MIDI ports anyway you want. Connect each of the 22 RTP-MIDI sessions to any combination of physical or virtual I/O ports. Almost any combination is possible.

At any rate... I've never been bowled over by a product like this before. I was expecting teeth-pulling and frustration. This is an incredibly well-engineered product, and I have no compunctions against telling you that you SHOULD buy this before ever considering MOTU. MOTU doesn't even let you rename device names in their Windows software, and more than one review online talks about how MOTU's "technical support" tends to be "throw away your PC and buy a MAC." Names of port categories have been revised to be both clearer and closer to what was used in iConfig and Auracle. Perhaps the biggest advantage with network connectivity is the ability to connect multiple devices on a network. Networking allows multiple connected devices to share data with each other; it’s a much more flexible way of working than the USB paradigm of Device => Host. Now multiple computers and peripherals can seamlessly talk to each other all over the same lines. The mioXL is basically a "fixed" version of the mio10 with some new features (presets, onboard USB hub, expanded RTP-MIDI ports, new version of the Auracle software). I currently use 2x mioXL units and 2x mio10 units in my setup and while I haven't ever tried any scientific measurements on jitter or latency, I haven't experienced any issues or noticed anything out of normal for PC-based MIDI sequencing (and I've been doing that since the DOS days). My four units are all networked together via wired Ethernet and the newer/better capabilities of the mioXL as far as configuring netMIDI makes it actually usable now and totally worth it. I'm getting very close to replacing my other two mio10s at this point. With the Mio's you really create a Midi Network. It's actually a router that allows everything to talk to everything. How game changing is that?

Ethernet connectivity means MIDI is on the network wherever you need it. Regular USB connectivity limits you to keeping your interface within 15ft of your computer. Ethernet connectivity gives you up to 330ft / 100m connection between you and your interface. Drop an interface in every room of your studio, or place an interface virtually anywhere in a venue.

You can save yourself trouble by adding the number or the DIN to the name, but your max character limit is 15, so abbreviate carefully. This problem could be solved by some hardcoded "soft text" that surrounds each DIN section in the UI, so no matter what your name is, you can readily see "ah yeah, that's DIN 7." With mioXL™ you’re able to streamline and expand your MIDI setup, no matter how massive and demanding. Even though it’s our most powerful MIDI interface, mioXL™ is still accessible to all users, allowing you to do whatever you want with MIDI faster, better, and in creative and exciting new ways. Have you been looking for a tone-creating device that will satisfy all of your creative needs. This thing has it covered! You can control everything from one keyboard or several keyboards depending on what sound works best in any given situation. There's also presets so you don't need to spend time tweaking tones yourself when they're ready made just waiting there for your ears. Life is easier with options like these at hand; they save tons of valuable studio time where we could be doing other things instead. It's no wonder why the MIDI Editor is a must-have for any producer or engineer. If you're looking to hook up your instrument and simplify your process, this tool will do just that. This USB MIDI Interface is a perfect tool for musicians who want to be able play their favorite songs on any instrument they have without having an extra computer. This interface comes with onboard presets, making it easy and fun.
