In Splatoon 2, while the Inkling Squid and Inkling Squid 2 amiibo share the same dialogue and features, the game differentiates between them. The rewards given by the original Inkling Squid amiibo are as follows: The Inkling Squid amiibo allows players to complete specific Octo Valley missions in two ways: some can be completed as a Kraken with limited time, and others must be completed with limited ink. In the Kraken challenges, the player is given the ability to turn into a Kraken instead of a squid for the entirety of the level. In limited ink challenges, the player is given three or four full ink tanks to complete the level, but the ink cannot be replenished. The challenges are as follows: After Agent 8 collected all four thangs and escaped from the Deepsea Metro, Off the Hook finally met them and Cap'n Cuttlefish in person after their battle with a brainwashed Agent 3, using a fleet of helicopters to carry them away. When the Telephone revealed itself as Commander Tartar, who wants to destroy Inkopolis, Marina came up with the plan necessary to defeat it - having Agent 8 detonate her prototype hyperbombs to cover the NILS Statue in ink, with Pearl using her Princess Cannon to finish it off. With the threat averted, the group returned safely to Inkopolis Square. Splatoon amiibo of the first two waves can be tapped in Hey! Pikmin to receieve various rewards. When tapped on the area selection screen, the amiibo will appear in-game on top of a Secret Spot level. Entering the amiibo's level will allow the player to collect it for Sparklium, and an entry in the amiibo Log. The purple Inkling Boy amiibo has green eyes in Splatoon 2, but this was fixed in Splatoon 3 where he had orange eyes. The physical CD of the album Splatoon 2 Live in Makuhari -Tentalive- is based on her laptop, with Turquoise October and DJ Octavio decals as well as ones based on the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook. When taking photos with Pearl and Marina, the player can choose if they will be dressed in their normal or Octo Expansion outfits. If the amiibo were used during a Splatfest, the player was able to take a photo on-stage with Off the Hook. In Splatoon 3, some Inkling amiibo have the wrong eye colors. Inkling (Yellow) has plain yellow eyes (Row 1, Column 3), instead of having the one with an orange ring around it (Row 3, Column 4), the Splatoon 2 Inkling Girl has the eye color used on Octoling (Blue) (Row 3, Column 5), instead of her pink eyes (Row 1, Column 6), and the Splatoon 1 Inkling girl has red eyes (Row 1, Column 5) instead of her Orange eyes (Row 1, Column 4).
In the Square King Ranked Battle Cup arc, Pearl and Marina return to providing the play-by-play report for most of the tournament.
