About this deal

Eminently Moving: After receiving a crushing blow, Darcy escapes London to avoid Elizabeth and try to recover. My heart broke for Darcy, to see his anguish and suffering, just when he was starting to feel some tendrils of hope take root in his heart… *sigh* Cassandra Grafton crafted such a brilliant sequence of events to engage and absorb her readers, I could not help but feel spellbound. MAIN CHARACTERS: Elizabeth Bennet. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Jane Bennet, Charles Bingley, Colonel Fitzwilliam, Georgiana Darcy, Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, Nicholas Harington (new original character), Serena Seavington (new original character) This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence. Desperate Measures by Katee Robert We fight during the day, but when night comes, we play out every fantasy I’ve never allowed myself to admit to having. I can’t hide them from Jafar, though. We know each other—and the dark desires we share—far too well. He sees to my every need, no matter how carnal or extravagant. It’s almost enough for me to be happy… This third volume was the most interesting for me. Partly, of course, because the couple finally sorted out all their misunderstanding and got together. But I enjoy JAFF most when there is angst and sexual tensions. I found lots of the former within this volume. I can take or leave bedroom scenes but there are none in this trilogy. I did enjoy how Georgiana and Anne were rooting for Darcy, even when he thought he had lost Elizabeth, due to eavesdropping (you know what they say about that).

Desperate Measures begins with newspaper reporter Matt Pittman, the protagonist, who is literally preparing to kill himself with his pistol out of grief for his son that has died from cancer when the phone rings. Volume III lives up to its predecessors and is every bit as good as Volume I and II. The story built to a very rewarding finish. The author stays consistent in her writing of beautiful Regency language. She never falters. Her original characters stay true to their nature throughout the trilogy and her new characters are charming and well written. All three books are exceptional and I highly recommend them. After reading all three I felt I should write how much I enjoyed this series. I actually would have worked well as a single, much longer book because each story just continues from where the previous book left off. The beginning of each new book starts off like a new chapter instead of a new thought or story, and the entire three-part series takes place in a two-week time period. Thankfully, I discovered these books after all three had been published.

You truly feel the deep, thoughtful research and appreciation of this fine author in the lines in each of the books of the series, told over 3 volumes in perfect dedication to the original. After overhearing part of a conversation, Darcy, desperate to leave London and Lizzy's presence, takes Georgiana and goes to Bath. He is hoping the change in scenery will help him forget the ache in his heart and the despair in his soul. The Colonel, who has some interesting news of his own to impart, soon joins them. Desperate Measures is the final leg in the A Fair Prospect trilogy and it does the job of bringing all conflicts to the fore and resolving them in entertaining ways.

A great pleasurable read which totally satisfies my needs what I desire in a lovable and definitely worthy retelling of this timeless classic in literature. I adored how some side characters were given more space - especially on Darcy's side with Georgiana, Colonel Fitzwilliam and Anne de Bourgh. Nicholas and Serena: Two original characters crafted by Ms. Grafton were added to this story. Both who have a long history and close familiarity to our heroine. I adored these two characters, they were wonderfully well-drawn and triggered some interesting developments to the plot. Especially since they have their own sets of conflicts and bring more conflict as Darcy makes some assumptions about Nicholas’s relationship with Elizabeth! Imagine being so desperate to save your son that you think a bank robbery is the only way to fix things… Well, welcome to the world of Rowan in Desperate Measures. THUS, I also agree with those of the reviewers who stated that these 3 volumes could have been condensed and, thus been less expensive, plus allowed the readers who complained about waiting for the next volume(s) to come out some relief. I didn't wait as I bought all 3 in January, 2014. As someone already said there were many, many times when we heard both Darcy's and Elizabeth's thoughts and, Oh, My! how could they get so much mixed up and/or confused. The 3 volumes take up basically 2 weeks in the life of D&E, not counting the epilogue.

Thrillers are often far fetched, and Desperate Measures is no exception. Pittman is in his bath, gun between his teeth, depressed beyond reason, when an old colleague calls up and asks him to do him a favour and give him a few days work. What tempting proposition could persuade Pittman to abandon his suicide attempt? Writing obituaries for a magazine about to fold. How could he resist? Through an unlikely set of circumstances, this leads to him getting into all sorts of trouble.

Maybe if I'd read the 46 (!!!) previous books, I'd know where a former police detective got as stinking-ass rich as this guy did. (Best guess: from lawyerin' and maybe wealthy family? I suppose?) But I didn't and I almost surely won't. Kay Scarpetta ( Patricia Cornwell): got rich somehow? I forget? Lucy's money is part of it, and I guess she earned some & married some? Anyway. Late Scarpetta books, probably around when she switched to 1st person, have had a clammy glumness to them. But I liked early/mid Scarpetta a whole lot and still retain affection. Women are sets & props for this guy. Other than the ones who work for him, and other than his buddy's wife, they're all young, beautiful, and DTF with a late-middle-aged guy (he has a grown-up son with a career). Archy McNally ( Lawrence Sanders, Vincent Lardo): hereditarily wealthy; often idle; puts the play in playboy. But he's a charming mofo (ten times more charming than that Arnold on Green Acres) and very sweet to his mom. Also I love his Palm Beach outfits and the Pelican Club.

Georgiana and Anne: I love it when other characters catch on about Darcy’s feelings for Elizabeth! It is so diverting to see what they do with this knowledge – how they try to help, manipulate, and matchmake! I especially enjoyed seeing Georgiana and Anne in cahoots with each other. I love when these two cousins come closer together, since we don’t see that at all in Pride and Prejudice.

Serena, Mrs, Gardiner's half-sister, makes her appearance in the beginning of Volume III. It is a pleasure to learn more about her as she and Lizzy have much talking and catching up to do. Pete and Annie continued to see each other, although not too often. She hadn't seen him in a year and he called, drunk, from Thailand. He asked her to marry him because they wanted the same things. She told him to call and ask her when he was sober. She told him that Dennis had asked her to marry him too. Annie waited for Pete to call but he never did. The only thing he remembered of the conversation was that she said no and that Dennis had asked her to marry him too. He thought that was what she wanted. Pete didn't like Dennis and Annie didn't like him much either. He just wanted money and would comprise his morals to get it. Pete didn't like the fact that he talked about himself so much and what he had. He didn't like the fact that Dennis seemed jealous of what Pete had and made comments about his wealth. If you’ve spent any amount of time on BookTok or BookTube recently, you’ll probably have stumbled across a series of erotic villain-led Disney retellings. Yep, you heard me. Erotic villain-led Disney retellings. I think the good things about Desperate Measures are the dynamics that are created between Jasmine and Jafar. It was a great relationship and I loved the moments they shared, especially when there was raw emotion with them dealing with it all. I love how Jasmine questions a lot of what was going on and whether it was right for her. It was great to see the ending go in a completely different direction. I appreciate the effort that was made. I loved Desperate Measures and the whole A Fair Prospect set! I highly recommend this set to an Austenesque fan! It is well worth the read! Without doubt one of the best series I ever read not just because it's a retelling and continuation of my favorite book ever - Pride and Prejudice.
