About this deal

Another new feature is an Eco mode that automatically goes into standby if a signal isn’t detected for an hour (although it’s disabled if auto power is activated). The DM 75’s modest feature list includes Bluetooth with aptX, Dolby Digital decoding and DTS TruSurround processing. But the most eye-catching thing on the spec sheet is the driver array. Unlike most soundbases, which might throw in some full-range drivers and a couple of subs, the DM 75 offers a three-way design with two 0.75in fabric tweeters, two 2in midrange drivers and a quartet of 4in woofers. Driven by a 200W amplifier, the DM 75 looks like it’s primed for serious sonic devastation. I'm sure monitor audio asb will be better but I don't think it will be by much. Remember if u want that extra bass u have the option to connect the sub, I can tell it transforms it even more, also it automatically sets the crossover to 80hz. But it’s not just the power of the DM75’s bass that impresses but also its seamless integration and agility, which means there’s no booming or overhang to pull you out of the moment. If something isn’t quite to your liking, it can easily be fixed using the bass, treble and EQ settings.

I mostly use the iOS app to change settings but for some reason you can’t change the centre channel this can only be changed using the SK10Y remote. If you have th Android app it does have the centre channel setting. Then upgraded to 5.0 with the tannoys and bought Sony 1040 had it for a month and loved it, I got my perfect set up, then came the idea to get a projector and re do the whole house, and with all these speaker wires on walls etc and av receiver it was a mess in my room. Oh yeah some have complaints about the sub not having enough impact when watching anything in Atmos, which I agree isn’t as deep and booming as when watching something in DD 5.1/DTS but that doesn’t really bother me since I live in a semi detached (got to respect the neighbors) it’s decent but don’t expect the whole house to shake! which some people love. But for soundbases build quality is more important than looks, and on that score the DM75 is a winner. Its high-density fibreboard bodywork is remarkably sturdy, allowing it to support TVs up to 40kg in weight. The DM50 was designed for TVs up to 40in, but the DM75 is suited to anything larger – provided it’s lighter than 40kg and its stand fits within the DM75’s top surface. Our 55-inch Samsung set sat snugly on top, even with its unusual four-pronged stand.

Canton DM75 Soundbase

Ok got it home now and did more testing also it says I have to run it in for 20 hours to get the best out of it. When Kitai dives into the waterfall to avoid becoming eagle prey, the sound of falling water is crisp and enveloping, with plenty of fine detail to give it depth and texture rather than being one mass of sound. As with streamed music, the bass can be a bit unruly at times – when Sly Stallone remotely blows up his own helicopter I hoped for a smooth LF tidal wave washing over me, but got something less distinct – and even the dedicated Voice mode doesn’t reach down far enough to give any extra clarity to Sly’s ultra-low oscillations. The Canton DM75 Soundbase has 200 watts of amplification that ensures the delivery of coherent sound. It makes lip-sync, bass and treble easier and less forced. Switching from stereo to surround mode, I noticed the soundstage opening up and spreading beyond the physical dimensions of the unit. That’s all you can really ask for from a virtual surround mode, unless you start dabbling in pricey beam-projection technology. The Canton doesn’t come close to true surround, nor did we expect it to.

Credit for this beefy sound should go to the quartet of downward-firing 100mm woofers inside the box. They add depth and punch to the effects that need them, such as the Trolls’ thumping footsteps and their booming voices. The rhythmic rumble of the kettle drums in Howard Shore’s excellent score also sounds huge, injecting the scene with urgency and gravitas. We doubt you’ll need an external sub. Let me first describe the problem, then tell you about my setup and then describe my awful experience with Samsung tech support!!!If anything, the DM100’s bass reproduction is too powerful. During Looper’s louder moments I found it a tad overpowering, boomy even, but after trimming the bass level to around -2 or -3 it sounded far more cohesive. Another minor bum note is Surround mode, which does little to enhance your enjoyment, aside from a gentle widening of the soundstage. It’s fine but you lose the directness of Stereo mode.
