About this deal

Reminder: You absolutely should not be using an exfoliating glove if you have sensitive skin or inflammatory skin conditions (like psoriasis, eczema, or active cystic acne) since the abrasive material can trigger even more inflammation and flare-ups. Exfoliating gloves should also not be used on your face or on skin that’s covered in acne, folliculitis, or cuts, says dermatologist Karan Lal, MD, because they can easily spread bacteria and/or result in infection. If you’re unsure which roughness you need in an exfoliating washcloth, it’s a good idea to buy several to compare. While a softer cloth may feel great, it may not provide deep exfoliation. An abrasive cloth may do the job, but it may be too rough to use more than once or twice a week. Unique varieties

My favorite scent is the Hana, which is characterized by deep jasmine and clove. These two scents combine for an indulgent, musky, yet fresh scent profile that jettison you to the shores of Maui’s mysterious eastern edge. The longer your washcloth lies bunched up and damp, the more time these microorganisms have to grow, meaning the dirtier your cloth may be. So if you use a cloth on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (and it never actually dries), then you have three days’ worth of growth. Staphylococcus aureus, a germ found in some people’s noses that can cause staph infections, doubles about every two hours, according to Dr. Vij. If you start with a single bacterium, you will have two bacteria after a couple of hours. Then, you’ll have four bacteria in three hours and eight bacteria by four hours. After a full day, there could be 4,096 bacteria on your washcloth. That might be freaky to read—but it doesn’t automatically mean anything bad for your health. Is using a dirty washcloth harmful?

Washing with water that’s too hot can compromise the skin’s protective moisture barrier, which affects the overall look, feel, and health of your skin. This means you’re more prone to acne, dry skin, psoriasis, and other skin ailments. Washcloths are among the most standard household items, so they are often overlooked. Yet they’re indispensable in the bathroom and elsewhere in the house, so it pays to put a little thought into choosing the best washcloths. Q. Are washcloths good for my face? Bamboo: Virtually synonymous with silky softness, bamboo fibers are found in baby washcloths, blankets, sheets, and towels to provide the ultimate soft-skin feel. For those looking to buy fine washcloths, finding bamboo in the material list is a sign the cloths will be smooth and supple. This loofah has two sides—one is very soft (softer than a washcloth), and the other is grittier. But despite the latter being rough enough to exfoliate the skin, the texture is very fine, so instead of irritating skin, it gently yet efficiently buffs away rough areas and makes skin feel super smooth. It lathers up just as well as body wash does on its own, if not a little bit better. On top of everything else, it can be thrown into the washing machine to clean, making it super hygienic and more environmentally friendly than loofahs that need to be tossed after a few weeks.

She continues: "If you're seeking the exfoliation that loofahs or cloths can provide, try using scrubs that rinse down the drain. Sugar scrubs, apricot scrubs, or any kind of gritty cleanser can achieve the same results." If your washcloth becomes stiff, try soaking it for half an hour in a gallon of water that has 1 cup of vinegar mixed into it. If that doesn’t work, run the washcloth through the washer again, but add a powdered fabric softener this time. As for what to look for in a washcloth that removes makeup, she’s all about “an old-fashioned nubbly washcloth for oily or normal skin” and notes that if you have dry, sensitive skin, you should opt for a smoother, softer cloth. Plus, to effectively lather the soap across your body you’d probably have to stand up in the bathtub or find some other way to lift your limbs out of the water. Since you’re standing, you might as well be taking a shower.I’ve been a fan of Coyuchi for years, so I was excited to try this washcloth. It has a very chic look to it, thanks to the subtle gray stripe detail at the bottom, which I’m a big fan of. It just looks good hanging up in your bathroom. Washcloths can also be used in a variety of craft projects. Consider using them to make an organizing pouch, a snowman, a baby bib, a bunny, a flower or even a pretend lollipop. If the wash loth is decorative, you can use it to wrap a small present. I prefer clients to use their fingertips to cleanse the face, as they can feel the skin and connect mind to body," Paiva says. "It allows the skin to be cleansed thoroughly and gently. Case in point: estheticians use hands, not loofahs, for facials." One thing to note is that the gloves feel pretty small and tight when you first put them on, but after the initial use, they do stretch out a bit and become more comfortable. More Helpful Vegan Skincare Guides to Try Exfoliating washcloths are available in more than one roughness. Unfortunately, very few manufacturers distinguish them. The only exception here is exfoliating washcloths made for sensitive skin, in which case the texture is slightly softer and less abrasive. As a general rule of thumb, I recommend avoiding body washes and body soaps that contain artificial fragrances, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or PEGs. Even if you don’t have noticeably sensitive skin, these harsh chemicals can dry your skin, lead to irritation, and even disrupt your body’s hormone production. In terms of function, it didn’t blow me away from a testing perspective. It removed most, but not all, of my makeup, and it did a great job exfoliating my face without leaving it dry or irritated. It wasn’t the softest or most luxurious washcloth I tried, but it was just soft enough.
