About this deal

To do this, you’re provided with a large number of demolition vehicles which range from straightforward (like a bulldozer) to bizarre (like a car that destroys buildings by ramping into them). Most of the vehicles are very unique and require a different strategy to get the most out of them. Some of them are very easy to use, while others require a lot of practice. Although many of the levels force you to use a specific vehicle, every now and then you’ll be required to switch between a few of them to accomplish your goal. Other times, you can find a simpler vehicle stashed away somewhere on a particularly difficult level, which will make things easier for you, if you can find them. Rignall, Jaz (August 3, 2015). "Rare Replay Xbox One Review: The Ultimate Retro Compilation". USgamer. Archived from the original on August 6, 2015 . Retrieved August 22, 2015. Blast Corps is a 3D top-down vehicular action-puzzle game developed by Rareware and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 in Japan (on March 21, 1997), North America (on March 24, 1997), and Europe (on December 22, 1997). Each level is initially marked with a shadow, but this can be filled with a medal by fulfilling the secondary requirements of a Carrier mission (by destroying buildings, freeing survivors, and collecting RDUs), or by getting a good enough time in a Bonus mission. Each level is also circled in a green or red outline. A green outline means that there is at least one comm. device in the level that has not been found, whereas a red outline means that all of the satellites in the level have been found.

You’re not done yet! Before the Blast Corps can relish in their victory, they are called upon again! A space shuttle that is coming in from orbit has no landing space, and the only available location big enough is a Pacific island filled with buildings. You know what to do… If you do pass on all the collecting, however, Blast Corps is a very short game. In fact, I completed it in two very relaxed sittings. Even if you take the time to complete all of the side missions, the game is still rather brief. The only way to really squeeze the game to an appropriate length is if you try to achieve every gold medal. Then, if it’s still too short, you could always try and obtain the platinum medals, which are near impossible. That may have been the purpose of the game, but it still feels a lot like padding. The next series of bonus missions use beacons to carry on from each other, starting with Geode Square. The game is broken up into several types of levels scattered across a map over the world. On each level the player must use demolition and go through puzzles to achieve the goal. The player usually begins in a demolition vehicle, but can exit the vehicle as the Pilot. Carrier Levels Much like Cromlech Court, this level is pretty much just another free one. The level is Argent Towers again, just without the extra stuff and with the relatively easy Cyclone Suit.

Mercury: Just a rather regular race, the vehicle choice doesn't even matter. Just make sure you don't crash into the middle island to waste time.

RADAR POINTS: You will see the first dish right at the beginning. The other one is on a platform only accessible with J-Bomb.

RADAR POINT: Find one on an island across the bridge in the pool, along the carrier’s path. Find the second within the castle to the northeast. Remember that you must get gold in every bonus mission. If you can manage to do so, then finishing the last of the game off afterwards will be a breeze! I will list all the bonus missions, with some tips on how to achieve gold on some harder ones. Destruction, of course, has to remain the central focus of a game with a name like Blast Corps, and the story-driven time limit for each level helps to keep the proceedings tense and fast-moving. However, there are many other factors such as immovable obstacles and seemingly out-of-reach areas thrown into the mix which require as much ingenuity as raw power to deal with, while a range of secondary objectives (triggering RDUs, locating scientists, freeing survivors) serves to broaden the variety on offer. Basically, it’s a game with many strings to its bow – and one which you can’t claim to have beaten until each and every stage is perfected…
