Numerous studies have shown that POPs elicit adverse health effects in humans, including disruption of endocrine systems as well as reproductive and immunological effects ( Ha et al. 2007; Morales et al. 2013; Tsuji et al. 2013). For example, serum concentrations of PCBs, p,p′-DDE, and HCB were associated with reduced thyroid hormone levels in adult men ( Meeker et al. 2007).
