About this deal

Flemish artists render the amber shades exceptionally well, hence two still lifes to accompany today’s post. The first one is by Osias Beert The Elder (1580 – 1623/24). The second is by Peter Boel (1622-1674). What are your thoughts about Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan ? Have you tried it? Do you like it?Let’s start a conversation and let me know in the comment section below. The resins (Benzoe and Labdanum belong to my favorites meanwhile) provide the slightly sweetish depth and spices (Here Koreander and Oregano, which clearly perceptibly weave through the course) lift it up again and make sure that the scent does not sink one-dimensionally hard, as it is unfortunately often the case with many less thoughtfully composed Orientals. Ambre Sultan fans, Serge Lutens has created a sensory new way to experience your favourite fragrance! The Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan Confit de Parfum is the same best-selling fragrance, but it now features a new oil-like texture that hugs the skin to heighten Serge Lutens’ amber-filled scent. Discover this innovative way to intensify and prolong your scent now..

To my nose, the time the scent starts to meld into the heart notes, the scent experience is more of an aged oak barrel containing fine Scottish whiskey, and that is coming from the cistus note that comes from the same plant as labdanum. Another winner among the blended ambers is Nobile 1942’s Ambra Nobile, with its mix of warm amber, licorice, and sandalwood. I have only a tiny vial of this and want more. Lovers of lavender will appreciate Ambre Précieux by Maître Parfumeur et Gantier. The lavender opens the show, but is immediately followed by nutmeg, vanilla, and a delicious balsamic amber. I can even forgive this perfume its ugly red bottle with the hideously huge bejeweled cap. Like many spice orientals of this hit (I think of "Taklamakan" or "Larmes du Desert") he uses a spiciness that inevitably makes you think of warm, golden sand, but doesn't look dry or dusty, but rather tries to reflect a kind of noble fertility.A "green" amber, which has a fragrance that is very different from cuddly, warm, soft scents. But sandalwood, delicate honey, labdanum and vanilla flatter together to create a long-lasting fragrance. To individual beastliness. Ambre sultan Eau de Parfum is not animalic, but he has this fresh, incredibly exciting note, which some here in the forum with the fur of a cat describe. Since it’s trying to replicate Serge Luten’s trip to Morocco, and the forgotten wooden box containing the amber resin, the scent will work best for occasional wear during the colder months of the fall and winter. Then someone messaged me on Parfumo asking if I could part with it - and I said yes. And then I was sorry. And, while I adore the amber superstars like Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir, Profumum Roma Abra Aurea, and Tom Ford’s Amber Absolute, now I see where the inspiration came from.

What an incredibly balanced composition has the dear Solstice bottled for me for Christmas: thank you for that! Ambre Sultan is a very perfumey, very herbal amber. It's a touch honeyed and more than a touch doughy, with its sweetness balanced by the medicinal tones of bay leaf (which is almost overdosed here, giving Ambre Sultan its "signature") and oregano. If the combination of bay leaf and oregano does not sound appealing to you, then stay away from this one.It fascinates me by an all-embracing rounded smell picture and no single corner, edge or note disturbs me also only a short moment long. In ideal conditions, I could smell this one even after showering, and the next day. Don’t overspray, and keep the number of applications to a lower level since the initial projection, and sillage can get the wrong kind of attention from your coworkers or new people you meet. The overall impression from the opening is further explored with touches of an intense and unique aroma coming from labdanum which provides additional layers resembling honey, and fine cognac. Ambre Sultan is an aromatic oriental fragrance for men and women. The perfumer behind this fragrance is Christopher Sheldrake, and it was launched in 1993, and 2000 worldwide. Serge Lutens’ Ambre Sultan is the Elvis Presley of amber fragrances – it’s left the building, but its influence is still felt everywhere. Its sugar rush of resins playing tag with dry, aromatic herbs is a motif riffed on by countless ambers since, such as Mitzah (Dior), Amber Absolute (Tom Ford), and, though Chanel would rather die than admit it, even a teeny tiny corner of Le Lion.

As time progresses, Ambre Sultan starts to lose its herbal qualities, and transitions into a resinous heart. The fragrance tails into the more subtly-sweet ambery accord with touches of animalic musks, and woody territory. My “starter” amber fragrance was the easy-to-wear L’Eau Ambrée by Prada. With mandarin, rose, and jasmine to sweeten the way, I happily wore it until the patchouli drydown started to grate on me. I graduated to the warm and beautiful L’Ambre des Merveilles by Hermès, and its sweet caramel vanilla seems perfect for the cooler months. It reminds me of Prada Candy, but I much prefer its greater complexity. Every September I reach for the stunning starry bottle turned on its side.
