What Are HPL Laminate Sheets? MDF stands for medium-density fibreboard and is an engineered wood-based sheet made by bonding together wood fibres with a synthetic resin adhesive and pressure. How strong is melamine-faced MDF?

Melamine is difficult to cleanly cut with most DIY tools, giving at best, one clean face, and one chipped side. Using a jigsaw will potentially damage both faces due to the sawing motion of the jigsaw. If you intend to cut melamine, we recommend using a circular saw. HPL is a lot like hardwood when it comes to its workability. The sheets are easy to handle but only if you use the proper equipment and solid do-it-yourself machinery. It is important to keep in mind that HPL expands and shrinks slightly more than other plastic sheets. So, remember to leave a little room around the edges of the sheet, especially when placing the sheet outdoors. We recommend a 10-millimetre seam around all edges of the sheet. We recommend using screws that are purposely made for MDF as generic screws may damage the sheeting. Does MDF warp?
