About this deal

I really like this book. I don’t think it’s broken, but it is very strong. We’ve seen a few aggressively technical books in the past few months, like Lumineth and Tzeentch. This book is a hammer. It’s blunt, it hits hard and it probably will break a few bones in the process. It’s got very strong brute force energy which is going to appeal to a lot of players who want something more straightforward. This kit comprises 111 plastic components, and is supplied with three Citadel 75x42mm Oval Bases. This miniature is supplied unpainted and requires assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Colour paints. A lot of the factions feel like a bit of duds. I think Host of the Everchosen might be far and away the best option for people looking for a classic Warriors of Chaos army while Despoilers will remain for those favoring a more Horde heavy approach. Cabalist could be an interesting Dark Horse option, giving you a frankly irresponsible number of casters. Battalions End it off on everyone’s favorite of Archaon’s bodyguards. These guys didn’t change a whole lot and quite frankly? Didn’t need to. They are super charged Chaos Knights, who can fight twice once per game. Now their spears get increased rend and damage on the charge, heavily incentivizing taking this route. They no longer get +1 to hit from Archaon which could be a problem, but you’ll find other ways to get that +1. Their mortal wound ward is also a 4+ now instead of 5+, making them even harder to kill from range. At only 10 points more, these guys still do their job better than almost anyone in the book. Endless Spells Eightfold Doom Sigil Such is the ferocious reputation of the Varanguard that even Chaos Lords – be they hulking brute seething with the red rage of Khorne or cunning sorcerer gifted with the arcane might of Tzeentch – know better than to stray into the knights’ path. To merely question a Varanguard’s authority is to court a swift and brutal death. [1c]

Seventh Circle - The Bane Sons, Seventh Circle of the Varanguard, hold that Chaos grows stronger as it feasts upon itself, and so consume the flesh of enemies and allies alike. [1b] Two Heroic actions anyone with Eye of the Gods (which is most Mortal Heroes) can take. Both are solid when used in the right circumstances. A special mention has to go to my models of the match, the Necropolis Stalkers . These four-armed fiends are so good – flexible enough to deliver unmatched amounts of death or bunker down and take hits, they proved a real thorn in Ben’s side. The Fifth Circle, known as the Scourges of Fate, serve as Archaon's headhunters. These dark knights proudly hang the skulls of their defeated foes from the armour of their monstrous steeds. Countless heroes and monsters have fallen to their blades. Not quite the overhaul Tzeentch got, but its something. When within 9″ of a friendly unit with their matching Mark of Chaos they get to reroll one of the dice when determining movement. Really these guys exist to have a ruleset when you roll snake eyes on the Eye of the Gods, or to fill space. Fomoroid Crusher Ally Options. You can take allies in any Age of Sigmar army, and Chaos has a hell of a lot to draw from. There are also a couple of book releases for Archaon to enjoy. You can get two variants of the Archaon The Everchosen Battletome with the Standard Edition...

Following the War of the Allpoints in which Archaon gained control of the newly renamed Eightpoints, the Varanspire was raised during the Age of Chaos. [3b] [3c] [4a] No matter what, playing Slaves to Darkness is all about hitting first if you can: move faster than the enemy, have better melee range, use abilities that trigger off takedowns of enemy fighters, and use your strong Leaders tactically to take out important targets. Pros and Cons of the Slaves to Darkness Warband Low standard damage not helped by universal Strength buff ability. Some fun thematic warbands for the Slaves to Darkness Swordbands There are fun alternatives like Hosts of the Everchosen if you want to run a hyper elite army of Archaon with all Varanguard. You do have options. Admittedly, this is really not an optimal warband from a tactical perspective. What it does do is let you build a warband with just what you get in the Start Collecting! Slaves to Darkness box, which has some of the best model designs for the Slaves to Darkness available.

7. Munificent Wanderers: Plague Grinder

Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount (it’s just called Lord on Daemonic Mount on the GW webstore for some reason) After you’ve watched those, you can treat yourself to some classic White Dwarf as issues 309 and 308 get added to the Warhammer Vault. Perhaps one in a thousand champions will possess sufficient strength to undertake the trials of the Varanguard. Of these, one in ten thousand may prove themselves worthy to join Archaon's elite. The Slaves to Darkness: Godsworn Hunt box, which is originally made for Warhammer Underworlds, lets you build six models with a Darkoath barbarian look. One is a wizard that looks like a female Chaos Sorcerer Lord for a Marauders-based force, two have either a bow or a javelin and doesn’t really fit any roles in the warband, one is a dog, but the last two are armed with great weapons and would work well as Darkoath Chieftains, and all of the models fit the Darkoath aesthetic really well. Tips on painting the Slaves to Darkness warband I think the leader model, with the big cleaver-style axe, rearing up on his horse, is the best of the three. The unit can also be armed with spears which give them additional benefits in battle although so do their daemonforged blades! You can read their full rules HERE.

Chaos Warriors [200pts]: 10 Chaos Warriors, Chaos Hand Weapons and Chaos Runeshields, Hornblower, Standard Bearer, Tzeentch

From here I plan to build the army out to 6 Varanguard, a Gaunt Summoner on Disk, 40 Warriors, 5 Knights and a Warshrine. Great Characters. Chaos Lords are living bulldozers. Sorceror Lords are cheap, tough, and have access to some great support and offensive spells. Darkoath Chieftains and Warqueens are cheap ways to bolster your hordes. Archaon is one of the meanest units in the entire game. No matter what point level, there’s a good hero choice to be found. Burning nations and tortured peoples are reflected in the cruel helms of the Reavers of Chaos, Fourth Circle of the Varanguard and merciless pillagers of the realms. [2b] Fifth Circle While Chaos Warriors are Elite and powerful, these guys are largely meant to swarm the board, which is a quality all to itself. Unfortunately these guys got hit pretty hard, losing their killer charge ability and only gaining +1 to hit on the charge, which isn’t near the benefit it should be anymore. Chaos Marauder Horsemen

Mortal lords and kings, Daemon Princes and Greater Daemons – all do well to respect the authority of the Varanguard. Even the most powerful emissaries of the Dark Gods have no thrall over them, for when the Knights of Ruin ride into battle it is by the bidding of the Everchosen alone. When a warrior joins the Varanguard, they forsake their allegiance to any but Archaon, and none are foolish enough to undermine his authority. [1d]Probably the best news about the book is how much simpler the basic traits go. Second edition Slaves to Darkness was rife with options that didn’t do anything meaningful. You no longer need to go through nested rules of Marks of Chaos, subfactions and Circles of Chaos. Just 2 rules for everyone and a subfaction to customize your force but trust me, it’s worth it. Marks of Chaos The Eighth Circle, known as the Nameless Circle, are by far the most mysterious of the Eight Circles of the Varanguard. Their nature remains a mystery even to the other knights of the Varanguard, as none except Archaon knows their true nature.
