About this deal

She studies Jesse. If she’s not guilty, she’s going to make one hell of a journalist someday. Ella also has a feeling that there is much more she doesn’t know about this girl. Things she may not want to know.” I received AREs of What Have We Done from Minotaur Books in return for a fair review. Now, would you please tell that person who keeps following me to go away. Thanks, folks, and thanks to NetGalley for facilitating. How badly you wanted another story featuring Special Agent Sarah Keller from Finlay’s last two books. I’m going to rip that bandaid off … she’s not in it. Sorry. In fact, if you concealed the cover and author name from me, and had me read it and venture a guess as to who the author was-I would NEVER have guessed Alex Finlay.

What time did you get home last night?” she asks. He’s a soundman at a recording studio, his schedule at the whim of the artists. It’s not perfect, though. I found the way the characters received pertinent information to be a bit coincidental. One source of knowledge was pretty unbelievable, and I’m not sure how this particular individual would uncover so much information that has eluded the FBI, police, reporters, and the like. Additionally, the epilogue was way too HALLMARK-esque for my liking. 🙄 I totally understand that this might not work for everyone, but it was so different from other Thrillers I've read lately, it honestly felt like a breath of fresh air. I really appreciated Chris (lawyer) and Ella (survivor)'s POV the most, as I struggled on and off with Keller (FBI agent)'s voice and overall character. Keller is 8.5 months pregnant with twins, and it truly felt like someone who has no idea what pregnancy entails wrote this character. 🤣 Many women don't even make it that far in a multiples pregnancy, but to be running around like she is without so much as being winded or slowed down? It felt completely unrealistic, maybe because I myself am pregnant at the moment. The narrator on the audiobook for this character was also very abrupt and harsh in tone and pronunciations, so maybe that contributed as well.

Wow, this is crime fiction at its best. Instantly immersive, pacy and propulsive, and full of surprises. Alex Finlay is the real deal, believe me.” —Lee ChildThe night was expected to bring tragedy.” So begins one of the most highly-anticipated thrillers of 2022.
