About this deal

i have seen one more video with the first Chinese beta version 990 touching the radio to get better signal & now seems they have make it better, but maybe still there is a small issue … In the end, the PL-990 is not a game-changer in the Tecsun product line: it’s an incremental upgrade in terms of features.

I have never seen such a eager response and extraordinary anticipation over the announcement of a new portable radio as with the new Tecsun PL-880. And I’m not surprised. You see, it has been a couple years since a really good portable radio has been introduced to the market. Plus,Tecsun has proven itself a competent radio manufacturer; the predecessors to the PL-880–i.e., the PL-660 and PL-600–are both excellent portables (I own both). Their smaller DSP radios are favorites of travelers and ultralight enthusiasts. So I will continue to use my 880 and 8800 with the little bluetooth transmitter dongle with my headphones. Each of the left hand control knobs on the 501 contains a dot to indicate where you are in the Maximum/Minimum range. At the bottom of the left side is a micro-USB port for when the receiver is used as a computer speaker – quite a nice feature! POSITIVE: Another interesting feature not found on other radios: Tecsun has created a dual charging system for the 501 which uses two 18650 batteries. I recently dusted off the PL-660 and installed a fresh set of batteries and I was amazed at how clear SSb sound was, it was so refreshing to hear it.You can add to or update/edit your existing review's content including the Rating and Time Owned with the Edit button on the right side of the review text body. Edits will go thru the review Approval process. The PL-660 comes with an AC power adapter to charge its 4 AA batteries, while the PL-880’s 18650 battery can be charged with a mini USB cable (USB adapter and cable supplied). One obvious user upgrade to the PL-880 is switching to a higher capacity battery. But again, even with the negatives I noted here about the H-501x, what Tecsun has accomplished is significant. It has given remaining potential buyers of multi-band portables three superb receiver choices. There are others in the Tecsun line such as the S-8800 and S2000, but of these only the S8800 is something I would recommend.

SWLing Post contributor, Dan Robinson, and I have been evaluating a pre-production model of the Tecsun PL-990x portable shortwave radio–the same model which will be soon sold by Anon-Co. find the source of the noise using a portable radio and tuning it where there is no transmitter and look for the maximum noise. It could easily be an arcing electricity insulator or a switchmode power supply in the dwelling. to me seems the pl-880 is more sensitive in reception due to specific kind of filters (perhaps better quality or hardware brand)… ICF-2010(2001D), SONY ICF-SW77, and ICF-SW55, along with the venerable Panasonic RF-B65 and SONY ICF-SW100S in the smaller category.Shortwave Reception: Fairly clear winner is the Tecsun PL-880 not only is the PL-880 easier to use but it received a number of stations pretty clear were the 909x was barely able to pull them out of the noise. The total number was pretty close but the number of honestly listenable stations was clearly in the PL-880s favour.
