Legions takes this intergalactic war to the surface as you pit the rebel scum against the Empire! Of course Star Wars is full of vehicles that don’t fly around space and Legions allows you mess around in AT-AT, AT-ST and SATs exams. (Maybe not the last one). Exemplar lets you get around the Clone Trooper sharing “cap” by providing another source of tokens, and there is no limit to how many Exemplar tokens you can spend. With Anakin, Padme, and Bolster, you can load up to five surge tokens per turn onto Exemplar units, and use those like a battery for all your sharing needs. You can also, of course, share extra dodge and aim tokens this way, in addition to standbys, which is not something you can get from your fellow clones anymore. This is not your Rebel Trooper Z-6. This is generally not a slot you are going to be filling, as something has probably gone wrong if your Phase IIs consistently find themselves at Range 1 of enemy units. The Captain gives you access to the excellent training upgrade slot. There are several options that are viable here, depending on your build. Overwatch Every clone is trained to fight and give their life for the Republic. But not all clones have the training to keep the Grand Army of the Republic running like a well-oiled machine. Add even more variety to your armies when the Republic Specialists Personnel Expansion arrives on February 19! On that note, let’s get into the gameplay, and I will try not to let my feelings towards my plastic babies interfere with my judgment as a board gamer. In this set, the Galactic Republic squares off against the Separatist Alliance, each force coming to the battlefield with a different tactic. For the Republic, the core set includes two squadrons of Phase I Clone Troopers, a fast-moving BARC speeder (with optional sidecar), and Obi-Wan Kenobi serving as commander of the troops. For the Separatists, two factions of B1 Battle Droids, two spinning Droidekas (in both wheel and active mode), and General Grievous serving as the Separatist commander.
A More Civilized Age
Overwatch is my go-to for an Anakin/Padme list, where you can spend Anakin or Padme’s standby tokens via Exemplar, or for Yoda where you can do nearly the same thing (between Guidance and his three pip). A Phase I unit with a Captain, heavy, and Overwatch makes for a very beefy corps unit that can zone effectively at Range 3 and ignore suppression on demand. It’s a little pricey, at between 89-94 points (depending on whether you run the RPS, DC-15, or Z-6, all of which are good choices here), so I wouldn’t run more than 1-3 of these, but they’re a great unit to supplement Anakin or Yoda. Situational Awareness Star Wars: Legion puts you in command of your own army of units straight out of the Star Wars saga, engaging your opponent in furious firefights across a war-torn galaxy. During a game, you will strategically maneuver your troops through bombed-out warzones, unleash barrages of blaster fire, and engage in lethal lightsabre duels in a desperate struggle to determine the fate of the galaxy.
