About this deal

I started off using the IPX80 with the 0.16Ω coil. This is a mesh coil with a wattage range of 25-50W so I filled it up, waited 5 minutes, and went straight to 40W which is the recommended ‘best’ wattage. This coil is a direct lung coil no matter how you set the airflow. Even with the airflow fully closed, it’s at best a slightly restricted direct lung hit. To talk about the flavor, it’s impressive. The vapor is really tasty and nice and warm at 40W. For a pod mod the IPX80 does well in the flavor department with this coil. I used a 70VG ejuice with this coil. Multiple protection: Lithium Battery/Atomizer Detection/8s Cut-off/Short-Circuit/Low Voltage Protection Filling can be achieved on the fly thanks to the design of the lift tab and the pod makes a very secure connection with the battery section. SMOK IPX 80 airflow control system is where the real innovation takes place. Unlike most pod mod airflow designs where you get one airflow control, the IPX80 has airflow adjustment on both sides for the ultimate throat-hit adjustment. SMOK IPX 80 Kit Specification: The Electronic Cigarette Company (TECC) got in touch and asked if we’d be interested in looking at the latest pod kit from Smok, the IPX-80. As this is ip67 rated, I thought it might be interesting for those of us who are inclined to be a little rough, or just plain clumsy, with their kits.

The Smok IPX80 pod kit has an adjustable wattage mode as you would expect and the very welcome inclusion of fast type C charging. Inside the box besides the IPX-80 itself you get the usual scattering of paperwork and a USB-C charge cable along with two RPM-2 coils. The first test was carried out with the airflow dials fully open and with a power setting of 22W (used across all airflow settings).

There’s also a compromise in flavour property. The increased warmth generated by the coil seems to nullify clarity and presence of the fruits while vapour production is as consistent as ever.

I always prefer to charge devices in a vertical position. Otherwise I’m removing the pods for fear of potential leakage. I would hazard a guess at there being around 70% airflow restriction, still more than I would associate with my favoured restrictive lung hit but less than needed for an adequate MTL – which the coil is designed for. The TFT screen is large and bright although it’s difficult to read some of the smaller numerals in direct sunlight.

Compatible items for this kit

When spinning both airflow dials down to mid way I would say I gained a further increase to restriction of about 20%. That’s actually less than I was expecting but the flavour intensified further and was certainly more concentrated. There are just two coil variations included with the kit, one of which is designed for a direct lung vape and the other for a MTL style. Again it’s been IP67 protected by means of a rubber cap. I didn’t find it the easiest to remove and actually caused me some frustration during multiple attempts to prise it open. I’m a nail biter so that obviously doesn’t help.
