About this deal

Sacred Spirits maintains a strong connection with its local community in Highgate and the broader spirits community. The distillery hosts tastings and tours, offering enthusiasts a chance to learn about the craft of distillation and the specifics of their production process. These experiences help demystify the world of spirits and foster a deeper appreciation for artisanal distilling. Dukes Bar at Dukes Hotel in Mayfair, is THE quintessential London Martini bar and head bartender Alessandro Palazzi uses Sacred as his house pour. London distiller Ian Hart was a pioneer of the UK craft gin scene and has been making this small-batch vacuum-distilled craft gin since 2009. Made from a base of English wheat spirit, botanicals include exotic frankincense, or Boswellia sacra in Latin, giving the gin its name. Makes a balanced, smooth and truly memorable Dry Martini. Sacred Gin is a beautiful, well designed gin that showcases all of the best qualities that can be achieved through Ian Hart’s distilling methods. The advantages of the botanicals chosen and the aromas/flavors derived from them shows that he’s definitely on to something here. However, it’s in combination that they really rise to the occasion. o describe Portobello Road as a craft gin. ‘Craft is a word I try not to use these days as it has become so ubiquitous, and has been so misappropriated in the drinks world, as to be relatively meaningless,’ he explains. Sacred Vodka is 40% ABV. It is a wholly redistilled flavoured vodka using 7 botanicals including: Cubeb, Angelica Root, Nutmeg, and Frankincense. One of the defining aspects of Sacred Spirits is its use of vacuum distillation. Unlike traditional distillation methods that use high temperatures, vacuum distillation occurs at lower temperatures. This technique is crucial in preserving the natural flavours and aromas of the botanicals, resulting in a fresher, more nuanced spirit. Sacred Spirits was one of the first distilleries in the world to employ this method for commercial spirit production. But the proliferation of ‘craft gins’ has given some producers cause for concern. Jake Burger and Ged Feltham launched their Portobello Road Gin in 2011 (see below). ‘We were certainly fortuitous in terms of timing,’ says Burger, ‘I think we’d spotted the potential for gin’s growth as a category relatively early – but perhaps we hadn’t expected it to rise quite as meteorically as it did.’Stephenson, Tristan (2016). The Curious Bartender's Gin Palace. London: Ryland Peters & Small. ISBN 978-1-84975-701-0 . Retrieved 1 June 2021. Sacred was also the first spirits brand to use vacuum distillation, a technique that uses less than 10% of the energy than a traditional pot still. This process is key to creating the fresh, smooth spirits for which Sacred is renowned.

Sacred Spirits was established in London in 2009 and is the only vacuum distillery in London. [1] Sipsmith Distillery in Hammersmith started at a similar time, but they use an atmospheric pressure copper pot technique. Sacred Spirits (originally named Sacred Microdistillery) was launched by Ian Hart [2] and Hilary Whitney initially as a pure Gin distillery, but now produce flavoured vodkas using the same process.Despite its relatively small size, Sacred Spirits has garnered international recognition, winning awards and accolades for its products. The distillery’s innovative approach and the quality of its spirits have placed it firmly on the map in the competitive world of artisanal spirits. For over ten years Sacred was based in the founders’ home but in 2020 the distillery moved into a beautiful new location based in an early Victorian building on Highgate High Street where it continues to produce its award-winning spirits and hosts two events each month. During a Distillery Visit, guests will enjoy a G&T as they listen to a short history of gin and a demonstration of Sacred’s unique distillation method, followed by a tutored tasting of eight of Sacred’s award-winning spirits. William Lowe MW has the honour of being the world’s first Master Distiller and Master of Wine. His innovative vacuum-distilled gin is specially created for Martinis, using botanicals sourced locally and from his own garden in Cambridge, giving elegant floral aromatics. Pure silk on the palate; this makes an elegant and harmonious Dry Martini. Alcohol 42% Fans of Gin and Tonic will appreciate the way that subtle frankincense kissed aroma seems perfectly complemented by Tonic Water. The less sweet, the better with Sacred Gin in my opinion, because it seems to add perceptible sweetness just from it’s botanical presence. This bright, citrus-led gin hails from the reliably good Salcombe Distilling Co in Devon. It’s named after Start Point lighthouse, which marked the beginning of voyages for the 19th century fruit schooners, which sailed from Salcombe, trading exotic fruit and spices from the West Indies and Azores. Grapefruit, lemon and lime add refreshing citrus notes to the classic juniper palate, which also shows fiery spice. Perfect for a G&T. Alc 44%
