About this deal

Room thermostats will turn on the heating until the room reaches the temperature you have set. Once the desired temperature is reached they will turn the heating off. Room thermostats are installed onto the wall with a circular dial with an arrow marked on it, pointing it to a temperature that’s displayed it. Some smart thermostats just work like traditional on/off controls and don't enable a boiler to modulate itself. Others, such as the Google Nest and Tado smart thermostats, can be set up by an engineer to modulate your boiler and work as a compensating thermostat, which can save more energy – more on this below. Your boiler is likely to have its own set of controls on the front of the unit, which is great for controlling your heating if your boiler is easily accessible but not so much if it’s been installed in a garage, loft or externally. Also available now are smart radiator valves that you can connect to a smart thermostat to control the heat output of the radiator from a smartphone, no matter where you are.

How will I know if I have this? If you have a gravity-fed hot water cylinder, you'll usually have a tank in the loft, and another storage tank below it somewhere else in your home, often in the airing cupboard. No cylinder insulationWith a weather compensation kit, your boiler will be aware of the temperature outside. This allows it to set a flow temperature that will keep your home at a comfortable temperature. So your heating system will be able to run more efficiently, saving you money. What’s load compensation

How will I know if I don't have this? If you have one, you'll be able to see a dial on the wall. Look at the image below to see what one looks like. Once the warranty period has begun, you’ll need to keep the warranty valid by arranging an annual Potterton boiler service, which will also ensure the safe and efficient running of your boiler during its lifetime. Boiler insurance and ongoing cover Boiler thermostats and central heating controls not only make it easier to use your boiler, they can also reduce your energy bills dramatically. Plus, time and temperature controls are also now an essential part of a central heating system under the Boiler Plus legislation. In 2018, a new legislation was introduced to improve the efficiency of UK homes. Under the legislation, known as Boiler Plus, all gas and oil boiler installations must now include time and temperature controls. Weather compensation controls adjust your boiler's output according to need, based on a sensor that detects how cold it is outside. While boiler timers can be used to control when the boiler turns on and off, they can’t be used to set the temperature. To do that, you’ll also need a separate temperature control, such as a thermostat. If you have children, being able to control the hot water temperature is essential, as you can prevent scalding hot water from reaching the taps. It can also provide a boost in cold weather if your hot water isn't quite hot enough. Switching to a zonal heating system gives you much greater control over your central heating and will help to increase the potential savings on your energy bills. Boiler Plus To help you identify the potential causes of some common boiler problems, we've put together the table below so you'll know if you'll need an engineer. Problem

Below are some of our top tips to make sure your boiler's set up to be as efficient as possible and save you money on your monthly gas bill – this could be as much as 10% or more. A heating engineer can advise you on the best method of heating your specific home. If it's not very energy efficient and your radiators need to be very hot for the temperature to reach a comfortable level, you're probably better off using your heating during the hours you need it most.If you don't have separate controls for this, it's worth speaking to a heating engineer about getting thermostatic mixing valves fitted to regulate the temperature of the water going to your bath, shower or sinks to avoid scalding. Temperature tips Out-of-date central heating system components and controls can lead to wasted energy, costing you money. They can also create potential heating problems, which could mean having to fork out for expensive boiler repairs. You can adjust it manually – find out more by reading our guide to adjusting your boiler flow temperature – but a load or weather compensation system does it automatically. These determine how much heat your boiler needs to create, and sets the temperature accordingly so it's using no more or less energy than necessary. In this guide, we look at the various types of Potterton boiler controls and what they can do for you and your home. Potterton Electro-Mechanical 24 Hour Timer Boiler insurance might be something you want to consider if your boiler warranty has come to an end. It can be simply taken out with your energy supplier but there's absolutely no obligation to do so. The boiler insurances worth making a note of will offer an annual service and safety inspection. Is it time to replace your Potterton boiler?
