About this deal

In 2021, though, Toyah – as joyously exuberant in person as she is dancing by the Aga in a cheerleader’s outfit on YouTube – is enjoying the fruits of a creative and critical resurgence. Is she… happy?

There is a sense, at the moment, of having touched the zeitgeist, and this will be the second time in my life that’s happened. So if I’ve managed to do that then, yes, happiness is available.” Toyah is enjoyably eccentric, even when her music does not appeal, thus I really wanted to like this album, a celebration of her indefatigable spirit, but it failed to win me over. The 1980s are having a moment. As several of today’s young stars revive the sound of synth-pop, a decade that was once derided is beginning to resemble a golden age. Tonight was my opportunity to reconnect having lost touch with her career and was surprised to find out that she has released 16 albums, of which 11 are as a solo artist. Throw in a few compilation albums and a box set, and you have quite an accomplished music career. Of course that isn’t the end of her talents as she has appeared in over 20 films, presented on television, appeared in numerous shows, and done a fair bit of charity fundraising. When the world fell silent in 2020, Toyah Willcox decided it was time to make some noise. The result was Posh Pop, the singer’s first album in 13 years – a defiantly energised response to the most testing of times. And then there was the small matter of becoming a global internet sensation… “I have to drive my own ship,” the punk icon told Classic Pop in 2021. “No one else can do it for me.” Unlike expensive virtual assistants, we never ask for your Poshmark account's information. Summer of Love" is an anti-war protest song referring to the original 1967 Summer of Love. Willcox said that in the song she "wanted to question reality [and] everything we have within the modern world, (...) that we're all being told and sold a dream. (...) Within Hinduism everything is believed to be the big dream, that this is where we come to change ourselves, it's not actual reality. (...) By joining together and being united perhaps we can bring a positive change and build that new world and that better future". [12] The disc in question was for her third album, 1981’s Anthem – the one that spawned the Top 10 hits I Want To Be Free and Thunder In The Mountains (and actually went platinum, if we’re keeping score). And the other was a heartfelt open letter written by Shirley Manson last year, in which the Garbage singer admitted that Toyah had always been one of her greatest inspirations, but as a teenager she’d been afraid to admit it publicly because she “wasn’t considered very cool”. The evening had started off with a solo acoustic set from CurrIs lead singer Holly Deanna, and with virtually everyone having arrived for the main act, it was nice to see a support act getting full exposure. A free virtual assistant to help share your closet, grow your Poshmark closet, and increase your Poshmark sales. She’s made excellent questing albums since Anthem, but none have so completely reconciled her fearlessness with a simultaneous love of bloody great big pop songs. Posh Pop’s title alludes to Toyah’s husband Robert Fripp guesting on guitar, under the alias Bobby Willcox. Such knowingness aside, it’s not a bad description for such elegant material. The refrain, “You’re never too old to shine,” is the central feature of Rhythm In My House, and it’s a personal reflection of Toyah’s life and career. Viewers of …Sunday Lunch will already realise that rhythm is, indeed a staple of life chez Toyah/Fripp, despite (what might be perceived as) advancing years. As Toyah is keen to point out: “[You’re never too old to shine]… is absolutely the message of this album. It’s never too late. Life is about the journey, from birth to your last day. It’s not about doors closing.”And that’s a message that Toyah lives and breathes; it won’t do anyone any harm to do likewise. Toyah At Home & On The Road - Episode 5". YouTube. 11 September 2021 . Retrieved 26 September 2021. My first encounter with Toyah may have been as a 16 year old hearing ‘Sheep Farming In Barnet’ and being most intrigued by her, or it could have been watching her playing ‘Monkey’ in ‘Quadrophenia’ around the same time, but whichever I was hooked. She has supplied her voice to animated Mr Bean series and Teletubbies and has “done” Shakespeare’s The Tempest, writes Martin Hutchinson. This is what we do, we’re full of bravado in adversity. It’s why this album is deliberately designed to lift people.”
