The help desk, the Automotive Forum, and our FaceBook group have all seen an increase in questions and discussions around the best way to work with these sensors. This has prompted me to look into how PicoScope can be used to get as much information as possible from these sensors.
Communication is initiated and controlled by the Master, typically through an open drain bidirectional port pin. When idle the 1-Wire line is pulled up to the 3 V or 5 V supply voltage with a resistor. Most 1-Wire slave devices are parasitically powered. Power for device operation is derived from an internal power storage capacitor that stores charge when the 1-Wire line is in the idle high state. Your PicoScope is provided with many powerful tools to help you acquire and analyze waveforms. While these tools can be used on their own, the real power of PicoScope lies in the way they have been designed to work together.

Note: PicoScope 6 Automotive and PicoScope 7 Automotive handle the new PicoScope 4425A and 4225A models differently: Generally a .psdata file can be opened in both PicoScope 6 Automotive and PicoScope 7 Automotive. However, if it has been saved in PicoScope 7 Automotive using a 4425A or 4225A device then PicoScope 6 Automotive cannot recognise the probe settings. In this case, to open a file correctly in PicoScope 6 Automotive, remove any connected PicoScope device and connect a demo device so that PicoScope is in demo mode. You will then be able to load your file. Supported systems and languages The spectrum view plots amplitude againstfrequency and is ideal for finding noise, crosstalk or distortion in signals. The spectrum analyzer in PicoScope is of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) type which, unlike a traditional swept spectrum analyzer, can display the spectrum of a single, non-repeating waveform. The digital inputs can be displayed individually or in named groups with binary, decimal or hexadecimal values shown in a bus-style display. A separate logic threshold from –5 V to +5 V can be defined for each 8-bit input port. The digital trigger can be activated by any bit pattern combined with an optional transition on any input. Advanced logic triggers can be set on either the analog or digital input channels, or both to enable complex mixed-signal triggering. Fixed an issue where advanced triggering on digital channels was not possible without an analog channel enabled As PicoScope 7 Automotive's other serial decoding tools, the CAN J1939 serial decoder converts CAN bus voltages to a readable form (typically hexadecimal, but binary, decimal, or ASCII formats are also possible). Great functionality in a compact size. I really like moving the mouse pointer to a position and having the Time and Voltage display the values at that point. Calibration equipment is a breeze with that feature. It is a great scope. I had a weird problem - it did not work on one of my PC’s. Customer service gave me first class service. If I could give 6 stars for customer service - I would do so. Fixed an issue where Math Channels returned too large values when using x10 probes or Resolution EnhanceThe guided tests set up the scope for you, then tell you how to connect to the vehicle, perform the test, and evaluate your waveforms. Plus, they are full of information to help you understand how the system works and the possible failure modes and associated symptoms. We still have more unanswered questions from this session, and Steve is working hard to provide the answers for them. Here is the second part of his follow-up.
