About this deal

Please also bring a set of waterproofs as the weather can change significantly over the course of a day. The Peak District has a wealth of bouldering venues available and over the course of a busy day we’ll visit a few locations. There will always be route choices suitable for everyone from beginners through to experienced climbers. You will be challenged at the right level to suit you. Our bouldering days are all about inclusivity. All participants for this course must be over 16 and under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Who Will Be Looking After Me? Hollin Bank Car Park is the primary official parking facility for Stanage Edge, operated by the Peak District National Authority and serving as the starting point for the route discussed in this guide. For the more experienced climbers, Burbage North is one of the best choices and offers a mix of technical cruxes, including many highballs for the daring. It has a good range in the higher grades and will keep you busy for months with the number of problems on offer. Just to let you know we had an absolutely fantastic weekend! … We’d also like to comment on how professional and competent Matt is, we felt quite safe under his guidance and learnt loads! … Thanks again – keep up the good work, hope to see you again soon.”

The Limestone at the Peak has been put on the map by UK bouldering pioneers - Moffatt, Allen, and Proctor - who started by putting up first ascents at Stoney Middleton. The initial part of the Stanage Edge walk can be challenging due to a steep gradient but it is generally manageable for most walkers. Once the cliffs at the top are reached, the terrain becomes much flatter. How far is Stanage Edge from the car park? One of the lesser-known spots on our list, Wimberry is located far from the highly popular venues of the Eastern Peak yet is still a well-developed area with easy access and a large number of beginner intermediate problems. Situated not far off the A635 coming out of Manchester, the spot is ideal for newer boulderers near the Northern Peak who want to find quality problems without travelling too far. We believe you learn best by doing and so focus on small groups and maximum activity time. That’s what you came for isn’t it? You’ll learn a host of essential trad climbing skills and get plenty of climbing time. By the end of the course you’ll be confident to start outdoor climbing yourself. All participants for this course must be over 16 and under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The Peak District is one of the oldest national parks and a super bouldering destination in England.Stanage Plantation: Adjacent to Stanage Edge, Stanage Plantation offers a more secluded climbing experience. Although part of the same geological formation, the Plantation has a different character, with smaller and more scattered gritstone edges. These unique features draw climbers looking for a different set of challenges, and it’s an excellent spot for bouldering with a focus on more demanding routes. The accessibility here might require more effort, but the reward is a more intimate connection with nature and less crowded climbing spots. Bouldering can be physically demanding and potentially dangerous. Always climb with a spotter or a pad for added safety. Assess risks, be mindful of your limits, and practice proper falling techniques to reduce the risk of injury.

With the ascent behind you, the path now meanders alongside the cliffs to the edge’s end, which is pretty flat. Wolf Edge blends the excitement of climbing with breathtaking views. It’s a popular spot that attracts climbers of all levels, offering a dynamic experience that’s hard to forget. Bouldering involves climbing short routes on the many huge gritstone boulders that litter the national park. For anyone new to climbing it is a very accessible way to get into the sport. For those with climbing experience it offers a great way to improve your climbing skills. Bouldering is fast paced and you’ll get a lot out of a full day with us. You’ll also be in absolutely stunning surroundings. Who Is The Course Suitable For? Peak District Bouldering (Vertebrate Publishing): over 3300 problems on over 70 crags, 2150 below font 7A and 1150 at 7A and above. We provide all the technical equipment including harnesses and helmets (although you are welcome to bring your own if you have them) so all you need is suitable clothing and lunch. Long trousers that you can move in freely and warm upper layers are ideal. We ask you to provide your own transport to and from venues although we can quite often organise car sharing to minimise environmental impact and reduce fuel costs. Once we are there we will try to use car sharing to get us around during the course. We can usually collect you from a local station if you are travelling to your course via public transport. During the day you’ll learn a ‘toolbox’ of essential techniques ready to progress your bouldering in the future if you choose. The selection of techniques covered will include: Note: Brace yourself for the steepest part of the climb, a swift ascent that promises to be rewarding.
