About this deal

Again, I must say, what a great ending! Watling was in DANGEROUS CARGO, MR ARKADIN and STRYKER OF THE YARD. Tafler, who made a career out of playing lowlifes, was in IT ALWAYS RAINS ON SUNDAYS, UNEASY TERMS, ASSASSIN FOR HIRE, MYSTERY JUNCTION, THE SCARLET THREAD, WIDE BOY, THE VENETIAN BIRD, OPERATION DIPLOMAT, THE GLASS CAGE, DIAL 999, THE LONG ARM, INTERPOL, THE COUNTERFEIT PLAN and BANK RAIDERS. He answered, “I do not know whether he is a sinner. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”

For the most part the pace is slow and the picture is very dialogue heavy. Ronald Binge's musical score also confuses the issue of just what type of film this wants to be, it's all very breezy and akin to one of those lovely old Ealing comedies that were made with some wry social commentaries. That is until the last quarter is reached and the piece moves onto a different plane... Several weeks later, a Police Inspector, Stuart Lindsell, visits the bank for a talk with Watling. It seems that Tafler is passing fake bank notes and the police believe Kirkwood to be involved. He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. He replied, “If he is a sinner, I do not know. One thing I do know is that I was blind and now I see.”

He therefore answered, Whether he be a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. Leslie Halliwell called the film: "an uninteresting character melodrama which defeats its lightweight stars." [5]

Strong's 1565: That, that one there, yonder. From ekei; that one (neuter) thing); often intensified by the article prefixed. Strong's 1510: I am, exist. The first person singular present indicative; a prolonged form of a primary and defective verb; I exist. Before John realises what has happened, Inspector Rance comes into his carriage and tells him that Irene is in the clear over the bank notes. He answered and said to them, “If he is a sinner, I do not know, but one thing I do know: I was blind and behold, now I see.”

But he responded, "I don't know whether he is a sinner or not. The one thing I do know is that I used to be blind and now I can see!" Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers(25) Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not.--The words, "or no," are added to the text, but rightly complete the meaning. He, like his parents, will confine himself to matters of fact coming under his own certain knowledge. They had declared authoritatively that they knew this Man to be one whose life was characterised by sin. He is convinced that this cannot be so ( John 9:31; John 9:33), but he does not dispute their assertion; he simply makes his own, which cannot be gainsaid, and which cuts the ground from under them. Strong's 611: From apo and krino; to conclude for oneself, i.e. to respond; by Hebraism to begin to speak. The man responded, "I don't know if he's a sinner or not. But I do know one thing. I used to be blind, but now I can see."

One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” Strong's 737: Now, just now, at this moment. Adverb from a derivative of airo through the idea of suspension; just now. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
