About this deal

The D90 has a bright viewfinder that provides 96% coverage of the image captured on the sensor. In the viewfinder, the photographer will find 11 auto-focus points, including one cross type point, all of which are evenly disbursed in the viewfinder. While other cameras may have more, eleven auto-focus points provides sufficient focusing options without the viewfinder being cluttered with dozens of points. Most photographers prefer a lower number of auto-focus points, because they can be distracting and take away from the composition. The meter seems identical to the D300 and D3. The defective meter of the D40 and D80, which often overexposed, is gone.

Holding and shooting. The Nikon D90 feels just about identical to the Nikon D80. It's smaller and lighter than the D300, but still has a good grip, with a good dent inside the grip for the tips of your fingers. It also feels more substantial than the Nikon D60, with more of what an enthusiast photographer wants from his camera. I was very happy with the new multi-controller, which includes the OK button in the middle, rather than in some location distant from the menu navigation tool. As with other cameras of this caliber, the D90 has a built in pop up flash, which is capable of providing flash in low light situations and at times where fill in flash is needed. Depending on how much the flash is used, the EN-EL3e battery will capture up to 850 images before being to be charged. Optional accessories include the GP-GPS unit, which allow images to be geo-tagged. However, the D90 does not have wireless of WIFI capabilities. The initial impression of the D90 is overwhelmingly favourable. It feels extremely sturdy and the build quality is certainly up to Nikon’s usual exemplary standard. It’s quite a heavy camera for a hobby DSLR, weighing 145g more than the EOS 450D or the Olympus E520, and 38g more than the Sony A350, although it is lighter than the Pentax K20D. With the 18-105mm lens fitted it’s even heavier of course, tipping the scales at a hefty 1080g. The large rubberised grip does provide a secure handhold, but if I’m honest the balance feels a little off to me, with the lens pulling the camera down and left. Still a crappy, small finder compared to any film or FX camera: remember, the 96% coverage is of a frame only 0.65x the size of FX.

The D90 works great. I can't find any real flaws, just the occasional small feature not present on more expensive cameras.

Why is Nikon D3400 better than Nikon D7500?

A little image noise is visible at 200 ISO, and the exposure meter has under-exposed the shot by around one stop.

Nikon D3X and D90 Honored with TIPA European Photo & Imaging Awards". Nikon D90 news archive. Nikon Corporation. 2009-05-07. Archived from the original on 2010-01-14 . Retrieved 2009-10-25. Maximum sync speed fixed at 1/250. (The D3, D700 and D300 can be set from 1/60 ~ 1/320 FP.) All these camera allow setting the slowest sync in P and A modes to any speed as slow as 30 seconds.

Nikon D90 specifications

As with other DSLRs, the D90's CMOS sensor captures video frames using a rolling shutter, which may cause skewing artifacts during rapid camera or subject motion. Recorded videos are limited to a 2GB file size and a duration of 5–20 minutes for each continuous clip, depending on resolution. This threshold limit is due to the overheating of the sensor if it is active for longer periods of time. [10] The Nikon D90 is a fantastic camera. It's Nikon's newest and best DX format DSLR. I prefer it to the old D300, which costs almost twice as much. That's the way it goes with digital cameras: new is almost always better, even for much less cost. The D90 has identical, or slightly better technical image quality than the D300, the exact same rear LCD, and adds several very useful ergonomic features for faster handling compared to the D300. These handling improvements will let you react faster to conditions, meaning you're more likely to get better pictures by being better prepared. Non-CPU: Autofocus not supported. Can be used in exposure mode M, but exposure meter does not function. Electronic rangefinder can be used if lens has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 or faster. The D80 does have one advantage over the D90, which is the presence of WIFI. This feature allows for easy image transfer and remote camera control through a smartphone or tablet. However, this advantage is not enough to outweigh the benefits of the D90’s superior screen size and resolution. The main difference between the DX sensor and the full frame sensor is the crop factor of 1.5x used in these sensors. What this means is that normal lenses are longer, when used on a camera such as a D90, than they would on a full frame camera, such as the D600 or D810. An example of this would be the image captured on a 50mm prime lens on a D90 would be the same as an identical image taken using a full frame D600 or D810 using a 75mm lens. It is important to note that cropped sensor cameras as not inferior to full frame cameras. In fact many professional and wildlife photographers prefer cropped sensor cameras because it makes their existing lenses longer, allowing them to get closer to their subject.

The D90 adds Lens Distortion Correction and the ability to straighten horizons. There's also a goofy Spherize mode to screw up images as if they were shot with a fisheye, but it won't see any wider than the image did in the first place. With more integrated inbuild buttons in the Nikon d90 camera, you’ve got the freedom to tweak your settings without opening the menu options. you also have a live view button you can change in between 3 AF types. From exposure compensation to Manual ISO control you’re able to control several essential settings just by pressing a button. Built-In Image Sensor Cleaning The dedicated INFO button mirrors the ingenious new INFO modes of the D700, making the D90 a world leader in usability. Unlike less expensive models such as the D40, D60, D3000 and D5000, the D90 has a built in autofocus motor, which means that all Nikon F-mount autofocus- lenses (the only exceptions being the AF-80mm f/2.8 Nikkor and the AF-200mm f/3.5 Nikkor, designed for the rare Nikon F3AF) can be used in autofocus mode. [4] Burian, Peter K. (2009-02-19). "NIKON D90 Review: Field Test Report". Photocrati . Retrieved 2009-10-25.It’s a good idea to get your feets wet with a simpler camera like the Nikon d90. Even in the current generation, with the right lens, you can have the Nikon d90 to take some amazing pictures of nature, people, and even astrography. Final Verdict If you know how to turn on all the hot stuff in the D90, like ADR and adjust the Picture Controls which are newer and more flexible than the D40, D60 and D80, by all means, get a D90. I hope to have a plain-English user's guide to the D90 which will show you how to use all these great features, in which case, the D90 will be able to crank out more vivid colors and smoother skin tones than the D40. Nikon specifies 1 lb. 6 oz. (620 g), stripped naked like abandoned cars in the Bronx (no battery, no card, no lens, no cap, no strap and no monitor cover). I, probably like most people, have no sophisticated electronic components in my house - TVs, computers, phones, VCRs, etc., - that are 16 years old.
