I recently had the opportunity to try out the Facebook Portal, and I must say, it’s a game-changer for staying connected with loved ones. The device boasts impressive features, making it more than just a regular video calling tool. Portal+ has an array of 2" tweeters and a 4" woofer that create deep bass and rich hi-fi sound, whether you're in a call or listening to your favourite music. This includes things like AR effects to add silly faces, masks and visuals on the call, AR games that you can play with friends while on the call and Story Time. The latter of these is the most interesting as it lets Portal users tell read children's stories via the video interface. This includes 15 different stories which add AR effects to the call as they're being told, the likes of Llama Llama, Pete the Cat and Otto are available with more coming in future.
If you remove a photo from Facebook that was previously displayed on Portal, it will no longer appear on Portal. Each device sports some fairly powerful and surprisingly capable built-in speakers for your audio enjoyment too. Work as a photo frame As the smallest smart display, it probably most closely resembles the digital photo frames it was inspired by, though with far more features. The Portal+’s communication features, like its app support, are uneven. You can make voice and video calls with Facebook Messenger, Facebook Workplace, and WhatsApp, as well as participate in videoconferences on services such as BlueJeans, GoToMeeting, Webex, and Zoom. However, Skype is completely missing from the system, and you can’t make phone calls with it like you can with the Echo Show and Google Nest Hub devices. Sharp Camera and ScreenI love the FB Portal because it's cheaper than a laptop and I just wanted something to do the bare minimal and I didn't want a tablet either. Using Facebook is a bonus because a lot of my family and friends use messenger or messenger rooms. Love the camera when it follows you or zoom in on others in the room.
