About this deal

The soles of the TX4 are made by Vibram, the leading manufacturer of soles for climbers, hikers and walkers. La Sportivahave transferred their knowledge from stiffer mountain boots into their approach range, naming it their STBControl System. Essentially, the upper wraps around the midsoleat the middle of the shoe which enhances stability on traverses and rough terrain. This also provides a more supportive and snug fit, in turn increasing the comfort and precision while climbing. The Boulder X set the bar extremely high as the gold standard of approach shoe. But La Sportiva has been quietly tweaking designs and stealing bits from their Boulder X and climbing boot lineups to create the all new Traverse X series of approach shoes and boots.

In our Hereford shop we offer a professional boot fitting service where we assess your feet, find a selection of boots that match you foot shape and most importantly we make sure that they are comfortable. This iseasy to do in the shop, where we have access tothe right tools, the option of letting you try on as many styles as you like and a knowledgeable member of staff that cancommunicate directly with you regarding your needs. Plenty of technology, a very lightweight feel and an overall great performance. We like this boot. Tester’s VerdictA lightweight and comfortable mountaineering boot for hillwalking, via ferrata and approach routes - the La Sportiva TX4 Mid GTX! I found that the rounded lugs gave me plenty of grip on a variety of hard surfaces from gritty sandstone to shiny quartz. The TX line is broken up into three models: TX2, TX4 and TX5, with the number depending on the weight and stiffness of the shoe (TX2 being lightweight). TX4 and TX5 models are also broken up into a low and a mid version, so that you’re able to fine tune the fit, stiffness and weight based on the intended use.

I found them a little hot in the summer but only rarely where they uncomfortable. For me, they provide the perfect balance between protection and breathability, and I certainly wouldn’t want a boot with less protection just for the sake of cooler feet – next time I may get the version without Gore-Tex as I suspect this reduces breathability of the boot. NOTE: The above table is only a guide. Manufactures don’t like tomake it easy as every single oneof them strays from the measurements above. But let’s not dwell on what you don’t have, instead we shall teach you how to ascertain your size using some common household objects. You should now be able to see approximately 2 cm (about an index fingers width) of the footbed poking out in front of your toes.

Impressively capable for both hiking and climbing, La Sportiva’s leather approach shoe puts it all together better than most

The TX4's are perfect all-rounder for just about everything outdoor-related, with every detail, studied to guarantee grip, comfort and protection in a wide range of conditions. The TX4 Mid is one of the most versatile, all-rounded pieces of footwear available; whether you're climbing, scrambling, trekking or simply walking around town, they're exceptionally comfortable, well made and perfect for almost every outdoor pursuit. The "TX" in the TX4's stands for Traverse X; La Sportiva's range ideally suited towards prolonged use in the mountains and technical climbing routes but also with a bit of everyday use thrown in. This particular colourway (Carbon Flame) is also exclusive to Trekitt; you won't find this colour anywhere else! There are no additional costs or duties on products marketed in countries within the European Union. Customers will not have to pay anything on delivery.

The boot upper is made from suede leather and mesh, and despite some heavy usage over the last 24 months, there’s no sign of wear and tear problems.

I have very wide feet and struggled finding a pair of hiking shoes that has a wide toe box but also keeps my heel tight, but these shoes hit the mark on both accounts. This test will tell you if the shape of the internal heel cup matches your heel to ensure it holds you securely, especially when ascending steep ground. We are trying to eliminate the dreaded heel blister. If you’ve tried on any shoe in the TX lineup, you know the drill: both the sizing and fit of these shoes are unique. For starters, most people find that they run large, so if you’re on the fence, we recommend sizing down a half size from your normal number. I have the TX2, TX3, and TX4, and wear a size 8 in all three instead of my usual 8.5. Second, both the TX3 and TX4 have a wide forefoot designed to increase both comfort and stability, which is uncommon from La Sportiva. As someone who has a particularly wide foot, I really love the fit of these shoes. However, if you have a narrow or low-volume foot, you’ll likely find the TX4 to be far too roomy. In the end, if this is your first pair of shoes from the TX lineup, we recommend trying on before you buy, or at least purchasing from an online marketplace with a lenient return and exchange policy.

TX4 is a sturdy “built to last” boot, thanks to the STB Control System™ that provides structure and torsion stability. The hard wearing leather uppers have an essential design and are high abrasion resistance thanks to the PU TechLite all-around rand: The Vibram MegaGrip sole with climbing zone at the toe and Impact Brake System at the rear are designed for climbing routes and return trails on technical terrain. The lacing system derives from the Mythos climbing shoe and regulates tension and internal volume in one easy move. Traverse X the ultimate expression of moving in the mountains in comfort, speed and safety. and adaptability in heel hooks when bouldering. Compared to the mesh upper of the TX3 or canvas upper of the Evolv Cruzer Psyche, the TX4’s leather boosts the shoe’s climbing ability significantly by adding protection, rigidity, and a close fit. Comparatively, the leather Five Ten Guide Tennie offers a slightly tighter fit and more streamlined toe box for technical precision, but these climbing-specific features detract from comfort and protection on the trail. Leather shoe with Gore-Tex Extended Comfort designed for technical approach routes and via ferrata, part of the Traverse X approach series: ideal for prolonged use by mountain guides and all those who work in the mountains. The TX4 is both a reliable hiking shoe and a flexible pair of climbing shoes in terms of its design. The lacing, which is very typical of climbing and La Sportiva models, and the slim fit are assets. They look good because the laces are coloured to contrast with the fabric. The soles are turned inwards, which makes them more ergonomic. These shoe are developed specifically for mens feet. For the women's model see the La Sportiva TX4 women. A Hybrid Design La Sportiva set the standards in approach shoe design with their Boulder X model. It was the go-to shoe for climbers looking to upgrade their approach shoe collection, or even to replace their battered 5-year-old Boulder X – we even know of people hoarding pairs of Boulder X in fear that they might one day become discontinued.Leather can wet out and grow heavy and misshapen with extended exposure to rain or snow. You can apply waterproofing products, but keep in mind that they will impact breathability. High abrasion resistance and reduced weights thanks to the PU TechLite rand and rubber toe for extra protection, Vibram MegaGrip sole with Impact Brake System at the rear, Trail Bite Heel enhances the downhill grip. Climbing zone at the toe for climbing routes and return trails. Cushioning under the heel is moderate and as I would expect from an approach shoe while the mid and front areas only have light cushioning. It’s worth remembering that this isn’t a general hiking boot so I wouldn’t expect it to be as heavy or have as much padding.
