The Katy apple is one of the first of Thatchers apple varieties to come out into blossom, and the first to be harvested. It’s a beautiful, bright red apple – a cross between Worcester Pearmain and James Grieve – that looks magnificent on the trees. It has a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness allow the cidermakers to create a very crisp and refreshing cider. Thatchers Single Variety Cider Katy has just been announced as the Champion Cider in the acclaimed annual Hereford Museum Cider and Perry Competition.
