I was a bit disappointed when I got the English translation that the story wasn't still set in the Dutch village. When the book was translated to English, the author took the opportunity to change the setting, and also to rewrite the ending. In his author's notes, he says it made for a better ending, but I still wish I could have read the original. this was written in 2013 and originally set in a small dutch town, and i really liked this part of the author’s afterword:
