About this deal

Los vecinos están tan acostumbrados que ya no la ven, conviven con ella como si fuera uno más. Sin embargo, saben que algo terrible ocurrirá el día que abra los ojos. HEX is creepy and gripping and original, sure to be one of the top horror novels of 2016.” —George R.R. Martin And so did the scary aspects of the novel. If you consider something ridiculous, how can you be scared of it?

THOMAS OLDE HEUVELT is a Dutch author of several novels, including HEX, and many stories of the fantastic. He has been called “One of Europe’s foremost talents in fantastic literature” by BBC Radio. Olde Heuvelt has been nominated for the Hugo and World Fantasy awards for his short fiction and is a multiple winner of the Paul Harland Prijs for best Dutch work of the fantastic. Forget about solving all these crimes; the signal triumph here is (spoiler) the heroine’s survival. HEX is a horror novel by Dutch author Thomas Olde Heuvelt. [1] It was first published in Dutch in 2013 through Luitingh-Sijthoff and was published in English in 2016 through Tor Books, marking the first time one of Olde Heuvelt's novels have been published in English. [2] The English version was translated by Nancy Forest-Flier and the decision was made to localize the work by shifting the story's setting from the Netherlands to New York. [3]

Hex is hands down the creepiest book I have ever read. Yes thanks SO much to the author for those nightmares. Loved it. When a book genuinely disturbs you, you know you are onto a good thing. Gramma,” said Steve meditatively. Then he started to laugh. He couldn’t help it: With that dishcloth, she made an awkward, ridiculous spectacle. Los personajes nos plantean ciertos cuestionamientos, que perduran durante toda la historia, a traves de la ralidad y capacidad de reacción de las personas ante diferentes situaciones , sobre todo en cómo enfrentan el miedo y de lo que son capaces de hacer.

Also, I am wondering if the difficulty I had connecting to the story was more from the fact that it has been translated from the original Dutch, versus the actual story itself. No one ever does though, as rightly they anticipate her vengeance would be swift and brutal. Why don't they just move away, you wonder? The atmosphere was equally thin. This is the Hudson Valley -- Headless Horseman territory! -- but Heuvelt couldn't manage to make his woods sound threatening. Suspense didn't build so much as drag -- events occurred, but there was no ramping up of tension. There was no tension. When some of the teenagers become frustrated with living under such strict regulations, they start acting out towards the ghost. Their cruel actions ultimately cause all hell to break loose.Go figure. I saw her in the parking lot at the Market and Deli. They had put one of their new toys right on top of her, a friggin’ barrel organ. I guess she didn’t like the music very much.” Hex starts off really well, the creep factor was so high that reading it at half five in the afternoon felt far too close to bedtime for comfort. For me, it's not so much that it features a witch, but that the witch acts more like a ghost. Who can turn up in your house, at any time. Awful. Just awful. Hex is mainly the story of Tyler and his father, Steve. When the teens actions towards Katherine have unintended results, both Tyler and Steve attempt to set things right. The town's descent into madness seems inevitable, but you hope that they find a way to succeed. This book was originally written in Dutch and was set in a small Dutch village. I was a bit disappointed when I got the English translation that the story wasn't still set in the Dutch village. When the book was translated to English, the author took the opportunity to change the setting, and also to rewrite the ending. In his author's notes, he says it made for a better ending, but I still wish I could have read the original. this was written in 2013 and originally set in a small dutch town, and i really liked this part of the author’s afterword:
