About this deal

Revive your kitchen or bathroom with our selection of ceramic and tile paints. Our tile paint for floors and walls is available in a range of colours, is easy to apply, and provides a durable, long-lasting finish. It can be used to completely transform your shower or kitchen, or to make minor changes to existing surfaces. So how do you know which tile paint is best for you? Well, this all depends on the job at hand. Our advice is to always use a paint that’s been formulated for a specific job. For example, if you’re thinking about painting your floor tiles – a paint formulated for floor tiles will be better than kitchen wall tiles. If you’re familiar with our guides, you’ll know that Rust-Oleum are one of our favourite paints to use and we felt like we should include them in this guide too. Whilst Johnstone’s tile paint is overall better than this one, Rust Oleum have the advantage of offering a high quality paint with scope for lots of customisation. Fortunately, we’ve tried, tested and reviewed many tile paints on the market and combined that with our technical knowledge of paint systems to come up with the definitive guide for buying tile paint. Nonetheless, tiles can lose their lustre and need a new lease of life, whether that’s to refresh them or to fit a new colour scheme. You could go through the lengthy process of removing and re-tiling your area, or you could save yourself time and effort and invest in a specialist tile paint instead.

All of our recommended specialist tile paints are tested using a small paint brush and a large, ceramic tile with a decorative glaze. Each coat of paint is allowed to dry for the recommended time, with a second coat applied if directed. One-coat products are left as a single coat to assess their claims of effectiveness.

As an all-in-one gloss paint and primer, it’s suitable for use on bathroom tiles due to its superior durability in conditions where water is prevalent. We tested it in the grey version – a medium smoky tone that provided excellent coverage after a couple of coats (as it’s a thin primer, one coat was a bit patchy). We liked its speedy drying time – around an hour before another coat – and there was no strong smell, plus we could wash brushes using soap and water.

This particular paint has great adhesion, can be applied thinly and is also resistant to impacts or abrasions. It also comes in a host of different colours (around 30 in total) and so allows you to get the finish you desire. It's time to make your cupboards and tiles stand out. However, there are a few things to know about painting tile before diving in. According to Bob Thomas, professional painting contractor and CEO at Hearth and Petals, “Painting tile is different than painting drywall or wood since tile has a non-porous, water-resistant glazed surface that paints can’t easily adhere to.” The Best Tile Paint Palatine Professional Gloss Tile Paint is a solvent based paint with increased adhesion strength compared to our professional gloss paint. Due to this, the tile paint can be applied directly to tiled surfaces.

The paint went on easily and, although we needed two coats to cover the pattern on our tiles, dried to a pleasantly glossy finish. The smell was noticeable, but not strong, and the surface was touch-dry in around four hours. Stir well before use. Apply evenly with a brush or roller and avoid overspreading. Do not apply in temperatures below 10ºC or in damp conditions. Key specs – Colours: 7; Available finish: Gloss; Also suitable for: N/A; Clean tools with: White spirit/brush cleaner

When it comes to renovating and decorating your house, tiles make sense for a lot of reasons, as well as in a lot of different areas of the home. First and foremost, tiles have a huge amount of staying power. As long as they’re properly fitted and well-grouted, tiles can last literally decades, needing only surface level cleaning to keep them looking fresh, even in humid, high-traffic areas like bathrooms. They’re also super easy to clean, most of the time just needing warm water and a gentle wipe. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. This particular tile paint is one of the toughest and most durable on the market and is ideal for use in either the bathroom or kitchen. When compared to Dulux’s conventional water-based satin paints, it’s roughly 10x stronger which should give you a good idea as to how strong it is! Lighter colours are more prone to showing marks, dirt and dust but to us this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it will help you keep your kitchen or bathroom clean. Neutral Colours
