The seemingly insurmountable problem was that I was convinced I wasn’t the sort of person who could run an online business, delivering my course content in that format. I didn’t know what I was missing, but I knew there was some quality I most certainly didn’t have and had no clue how to obtain. Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. It is owned by its 16 million members and exists to serve their needs. The Society is one of the UK’s largest providers of mortgages, savings, and current accounts, as well as being a major provider of ISAs, credit cards, personal loans, insurance, and investments.

To further drive gender parity at Scotiabank and Tangerine, Gillian spearheaded equitable policy practices to ensure diversity in the candidate pool and on hiring panels and to ensure women have equal access to job opportunities and advancement. These policy changes have led to an increase in representation of women at the manager level and above at Tangerine and an increase in women on the Tangerine Bank board. It seems that fasting has become the new standard of dieting, and also a central focus of the health community as well. Like most diets, it’s presented as the answer (or at least a partial solution) to many health and weight issues, and even as a potential solution for binge eating. I’m sure you know more than one person in your life who is on a fasting-type diet. I also know that fasting can be portrayed as “not a diet at all,” but as a lifestyle and way of eating that’s “more in line with how our bodies are designed.” These are complex issues, and although I would not make an overarching statement that binge eaters or recovered binge eaters can never fast under any circumstances, I think there are many compelling reasons not to. Throughout her own career journey, Gillian says that maintaining a good work/life balance has been a priority. She works hard, but she also makes sure to take the time to play hard. You won’t be told to wait until hungry before you eat and to stop when you’re full, because a good amount of research shows these signals are unreliable. You’ll need an alternative; one that’s flexible and one that suits your schedule. It really tests your leadership to be able to go into a new environment and figure out how to lead without knowing everything, and how to ask for help,” she says. “You learn how to ask the right questions and be curious and how to be impactful without knowing every single detail.”

Gillian and the full list of winners will be recognized at Catalyst Honours 2020 – a dynamic three-day virtual conference – taking place from October 6-8, 2020. Six months later I’d written the first half of the book, but still had no contract from my editor. When I pressed her, she said they’d decided not to publish, giving me no reason at all. I was furious but too far into it to stop, much too excited about what I was discovering through the process of writing. So, I did finish it and I self-published. It’s not a good idea to fast if you are not in the best of health, if you’re coming down with an illness or recovering from one, or if you suffer from a condition such as diabetes or hypoglycemia. I’m no expert on these health issues, but I’m not at all sure that fasting is good for those with Type 2 diabetes and especially hypoglycemia. This is why those with diabetes are exempt from fasting on religious occasions such as Ramadan.Just months after taking on the role as CEO of Tangerine, Gillian spearheaded the Women in Leadership initiative at Tangerine, which aims to give everyone tools and resources to have more empowering and engaging work experiences and reach their full potential. This is achieved through career development and education opportunities; raising awareness and encouraging a high-performance culture; and community-building tactics. This initiative has created a robust pipeline of future women leaders. The passion Gillian brought to her athletic pursuits growing up continued into her adult life and powered her career to great heights. I suspect all this is sounding a bit negative, and the last thing I want to do is to dissuade you from fasting if it’s going to work for you. By all means give it a try. Notice and manage your addictive desire to eat and you can certainly find that it fits in very well with everything you’ve learned in my books and webinars.

You could pig out on your non-fast days…but you won’t do that. In all likelihood, you’ll remain gently, intuitively attentive to your calorie intake, almost without noticing. Similarly, you may find yourself naturally favouring healthier foods once your palate is modified by your occasional fasts. So yes, eat freely, forbid nothing, but trust your body to say ‘when’.” Now, I’m a great advocate of an if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it approach to everything, so if IF works for you, that’s wonderful. But all too often people struggle with such advice – and they blame themselves. They conclude, “for everybody else, fasting two days a week is not only fairly straightforward, but also sorts out all the rest of their crazy eating on the other five days. What’s wrong with me that I can’t even begin to do this?” This revised and updated edition offers you a unique and inspiring solution to overeating: its aim is to look at thoughts and beliefs about food, unravel the mind's addictive impulses, and retrain it to have a more healthy, balanced relationship with food. It introduces you to practical techniques that you can apply in your daily life; it shows you how to set your own limits without feeling deprived and becoming rebellious; and it gives you the ability to develop greater control by helping you to overcome addictive behaviour. So simply follow Eating Less and see your weight fall off and stay off. Six Sections delivered over six weeks, divided into step-by-step video sessions, with supporting written exercises and notes.
