About this deal

If you've played any of the games in this system before, assuming you are like me and liked them of course, then Dungeons & Dragons: Waterdeep - Dungeon of the Mad Mage is a great addition to the system, clunky title and all. The compatibility between systems means that you could easily replace a few of the less exciting characters here with your favorites from past games, or insert some of the crazier monsters from the other games to really make this a monster party. Despite the hiccups with the misprinted verbiage and cards we still really enjoy this system, and the subtle tweaks to the overall formula keep things familiar yet interesting game to game.

Along with the missing read aloud text for this entire campaign setting, it can make describing every single new floor hard. Especially because I have to re learn what a floor is to be looking like 23 separate times!

Waterdeep: Dungeons of the Mad Mage is a great dungeon crawler, reminding many of the joy of an RPG without the need for a DM. It brings the classic world and characters to life but in a great board game. Another big change is the introduction of the Elder Ruine bane or boon cards. Quite how this plays out for you depends entirely on what you roll on the die. For example, the War card will mean that, for a roll between 1-10, every time you deal damage with a daily power, you can deal extra damage. Alternatively, if you roll 11-20, you will take one extra damage. Encounter cards are unforeseen events or situations that you’re going to have to deal with before you can do anything else. Disappointingly, they’re rarely a surprise birthday party for your hero thrown by your fellow adventurers. Dungeon of the Mad Mage board game is a historic strategy tabletop game designed by Mike Mearls and published by Wizards of the Coast in 2018. It is based on Gary Gygax’s Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, specifically the supplement ‘Volo’s Guide to Monsters’ with references to The Descent Dungeon and ‘Volo’s Guide to Waterdeep’. Dungeon of the Mad Mage builds brilliantly on its already well-loved predecessors, introducing some impressive new features to the game. The Weakened condition is a real bummer to shake, while the Disadvantage tokens also present an interesting new challenge to the gameplay.

The first thing that I need to point out here is that if players really enjoyed the gameplay style of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, they may not be as interested in the mega dungeon crawl. The tone between the two adventures despite being a part of a series, is VERY different. Of course, the first thing you’ll do is take out the miniatures. These, as with the rest of the series, are very well made. When buying, you’ll have the option of purchasing either the standard or premium version, with the only difference being that the premium miniatures are painted for you.Tales from the Yawning Portal • Ghosts of Saltmarsh • Candlekeep Mysteries • Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel • Keys from the Golden Vault It was also really cool to compare my character from the beginning of the dungeon towards the end when the entire group was substantially more powerful and the traps would have insta killed if we had attempted too early. There are other adventures to run as well that could get the job done to further the leveling process like the sequel to Sunless Citadel and The Forge of Fury, which will take characters from level 3-5 and is the second adventure in the Tales from the Yawning Portal book. Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage is designed by Kevin Wilsonand published by WizKids. It's a classic, co-operative, campaign-based dungeon crawler set in the dungeons and caverns beneath Waterdeep. All of the action unfolds within the famous Dungeons and Dragons universe. Components
