About this deal

There are not many boutique firms with a headphone model that covers as many different preferences as DCA has with the AEON. Also, a model that is thankfully unchanged in price and a welcome trait in today’s audiophile market. The innovative gimbal design also folds just as easily and smoothly as before which is one of the highlights of the build. Unfortunately the Net is stuffed with all that mumbo-jumbo about control, punch, warmth, amp-paring to circumvent headphone’s flaws, gigantic headroom, ... claimed night-and-day-differences whatsoever – these are pure myths and imagination and do not stand the above reality test. They do sound fantastic, especially when EQ'd - their speed and accuracy is perfect for nearly everything other than classical and strong-mid music, to my ears at least.

It does not use any of the newer Fazor airflow technology, however, it does use their Ultra-thin Uniforce™ diaphragm design as well as Neodymium N50 Fluxor™ Magnets in a proprietary dual-sided staggered array around the driver. The central thrust of the new tuning is how close it mimics the Harman Target Response Curve and it largely does but with just a few quirks. The first is on the low-end with a slightly emphasized 80-100Hz peak and just minor roll-off below 50Hz but nothing too heavy. The second deviation is around the 3k and 5k marker with just a shade more emphasis than the curve normally offers. Starting off massaging the pads helped out break them in. Wearing the headphones for around 30–45 mins at a time is all about what I can take. The feel starts to feel supper heavy after around 10 minutes. This surprised me to the point to where I brought out my scale. The aeon’s came in at 337g, 3g less than the advertised weight. To compare, my ether c weighs in at a beefy 403g. This however doesn’t doesn’t fully explain why the comfort is off for me. Like I stated previously, I believe it may be due to the shape of the pads and how they put pressure on my head. This may not be how it is for you, but I can wear my ether c for hours on end.

This smoothes the treble response and reduces sound changes with different positioning of the cups on the ear.If you are after a pure desktop system with a very smooth synergy with the Noire then I highly recommend the Musician Audio Pegasus R2R DAC behind your amplifier of choice for the same reasoning as the DX300.

Still, they have surgical precision and dynamics and are definitely part of a balanced audiophile diet.
