Cadbury was founded in 1824 in Birmingham, England, by John Cadbury (1801–1889), a Quaker who sold tea, coffee and drinking chocolate. Cadbury developed the business with his brother Benjamin, followed by his sons Richard and George. George developed the Bournville estate, a model village designed to give the company's workers improved living conditions. Dairy Milk chocolate, introduced by George Jr in 1905, used a higher proportion of milk in the recipe than rival products. By 1914, it was the company's best-selling product. Successive members of the Cadbury family have made innovations with chocolate products. Cadbury, Rowntree's and Fry's were the big three British confectionery manufacturers throughout much of the 19th and 20th centuries. [3] a b c d e f g h Fitzgerald, Robert (2005). "Products, Firms and Consumption: Cadbury and the Development of Marketing, 1900–1939". Business History. 47 (4): 511–531. doi: 10.1080/00076790500132977. S2CID 154421535.

It works best if the chocolate has been in the freezer. This seems to help stop the caramel completely melting into the mixture. I broke the frozen chocolate into pieces and then pushed each piece just slightly into the brownie mixture. This stopped it from sinking all the way to the bottom of the mixture (which again is more likely to make the caramel melt into the brownie as it would be closer to the hot surface of the baking tray). Fortunately having the kids off school for the half term holidays means that I've had more opportunity to run around and work them off! In 1948, Cadbury India began its operations in India by importing chocolates. On 19 July 1948, Cadbury was incorporated in India. It now has manufacturing facilities in Thane, Induri ( Pune) and Malanpur ( Gwalior), Hyderabad, Bangalore and Baddi ( Himachal Pradesh) and sales offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. The corporate head office is in Mumbai. The head office is presently situated at Pedder Road, Mumbai, under the name of "Cadbury House". Since 1965 Cadbury has also pioneered the development of cocoa cultivation in India. For over two decades, Cadbury has worked with the Kerala Agricultural University to undertake cocoa research.
