About this deal

If you go down to the woods today you’re in for a terrible surprise…you’ll find badgers without furry bottoms, rabbits with itchy problems, voles without holes and some very naughty foxes.

It's time to call Agent Weasel, woodland super-spy. Can he and his trusty dormouse friend Doorkins find out more about the sleek winter ermine who are winning all the golden acorns? Will Weasel be able to take part in the competition without falling over his own feet? Will there be enough marshmallows and sprinkles for another hot chocolate? Who knows? I have to say that at times it felt more like a book 2 or 3 in a series. But from what I can find this is truly book 1. But at other times, confusingly, I was wondering why everyone was so hyped about this guy. I mean he busts his disguise/hideout in just mere minutes after the foxes appear, he cannot battle unless he gets his weasel dance activated, he gets captured easily. You would think a top agent would have more brains and more understanding of how to do things. He was an idiot at times.. Even though creating your own book can be much harder – illustrating for other writers is a great responsibility. You really want to achieve their vision, which can certainly make for a more drawn out process – if you’ll pardon the pun. But there is nothing more exciting than that first read of a new text. Characters and scenes immediately start popping into in my head. I’ll usually begin sketching away on the A4 printout – before I’ve even read to the end. From the first sketch to final artwork can be an immensely rewarding business. For instance, when the animals first see the Fox Gangs fiendish control room – a large detailed illustration allowed me to minimise the description. And this was definitely one instance where the sketch came before the writing. A large, complexed space, like the fox den, can be difficult to get your head around. Particularly when the action moves through it and the geography needs to be right. Creating that scene, was particularly enjoyable. There had to be a working balance between the writing and the sketches. I needed to be sure of it before Weasel could crash dramatically through the space. Eventually landing at the feet of the Fiendish Fox Gangs infamous leader. Olivia Hope, from Flourish and Blogs, speaks to him about his new series Agent Weasel. He talks about inspiration, creating stories and Inspector Clouseau. It’s the opening night of the Winter Whopper Games, but all is not well in the United Woodlands. Top animal athletes are disappearing, and there are whispers of a silent snow beast on the prowl. The character of Agent Weasel without a doubt. I spotted a wild Weasel on a local walk one day. It bounded out in front of me with a bird’s egg in its jaws. Obviously, I felt for the poor mother and father bird but was so impressed by this little creature’s speed and agility, I immediately thought – animal action hero. There are more dramatic missions ahead for Agent Weasel and Doorkins, can you give us a clue about where they’ll take place?

What was your creative process like for creating your own book and how did it compare with working on other writers’ work? I loved the case and I loved seeing what the foxes were up to, in the end I hadn't even expected that, but I can imagine she became grumpy, I would have become grumpy to. No worries, I won't shave any badgers bottoms if I get grumpy. It's the opening night of the Winter Whopper Games, but all is not well in the United Woodlands. Top animal athletes are disappearing, and there are whispers of a silent snow beast on the prowl. I am now at home, so hopefully one of my libraries here will have the second book as I need to know what happened in that book~Change the plan you will roll onto at any time during your trial by visiting the “Settings & Account” section. What happens at the end of my trial? But I did love this weasel. I loved that he was a weasel, because while I can name various foxes, cats, mice, and other animals, I just cannot think of a book with a weasel as the main lead. I loved that he is a superspy and that he gets cases like this. Exciting cases. Oh, and I love that, despite blundering through things, he still does his best and has some brilliant ideas (like when they found out why Von Fluff was so angry he had a magnificent plan to make her happy again, which is wonderful). And come on, his dancing was pretty hypnotising and awesome. And deadly... I guess. :P In the interim, between the end of the Goodnight series and the start of Toto the Ninja cat – I worked on many picture books with a number of different authors and publishers. It was a steep learning curve for me – as I had no formal training in illustration at all. And I really had to search for that storytelling ability within my artwork. Meet Agent Weasel: woodland super-spy. Can he save the Big Freeze winter games from disaster? And will there be enough marshmallows for another hot chocolate? Perfect for reading alone or sharing together, for fans of The Bolds and Toto the Ninja Cat. It's time to call Agent Weasel, woodland super-spy. Can he and his trusty dormouse friend Doorkins find out the secrets of Blanche, their mysterious team-mate? Will Weasel be able to compete for a golden fir cone without falling over his own feet? Will there be enough marshmallows and sprinkles for another hot chocolate? Who knows?

Will Weasel be able to compete for a golden fir cone without falling over his own feet? Will there be enough marshmallows and sprinkles for another hot chocolate? Who knows? I also had a laugh at all that was hidden in the jumpers of the agents. So many things! It reminded me of other shows/books in which characters seemingly have endless room in places that you don’t expect. Give me a sweater like that, I wouldn’t mind hiding in some extra books when I am on the road. XD The inhabitants of United Woodlands are being terrorised and all evidence and paws point to the Fiendish Fox Gang (the FFG for short). In a secret hideout deep underground lives the infamous leader of the gang and she plans on ruining the autumn fair and squashing everyone and everything that’s there! I like my arch criminals, formidable, intelligent and downright nasty. With a devilishly cool outfit to boot. Vixen Von Fluff’s look was based on Bonnie, from Bonnie and Clyde – the 1920s gangsters. The fox leader is stylish and fierce, if not a little bit twee in her decor choice. But for me, there should always be a chink in the armour. Von Fluff has an aching ambition to win the Autumn Big Bash – Best in show competition but is repeatedly denied entry, which could be the reason behind her cruel behaviour. But I’m afraid you’ll have to read the book to find out where that thread goes. Meet Agent Weasel: woodland super-spy. Can he save the Winter Whopper Games from disaster? But they did help our crew plenty of times, so I guess they aren’t all too bad. Meet Agent Weasel: woodland super-spy. Can he foil the dastardly Fiendish Fox Gang once and for all? And will he still be home in time for tea and biscuits? Perfect for reading alone or sharing together, for fans of The Bolds and Mr Gum. But the real tipping point for Weasel, was 5oo Words on BBC radio. For anyone who doesn’t know – this is a writing competition exclusively for children, between the ages 5-13. Listening to those fantastically creative stories motivated more than anything. This wasn’t because I felt I could do any better. It was more a matter of being totally inspired by these kids. I wrote three little tales and Agent Weasel was one of them. Strangely enough – it was the one I was least confident about. But here we are, book one published and number two on the way. Who’d have thought! It's time to call Agent Weasel, woodland super-spy. But before they can even finish their stakeout picnic, Weasel and his trusty dormouse friend Doorkins are captured by the villainous Vixen von Fluff.
