About this deal

Performance mixer boasts high-quality Sound Colour FX and Beat FX The XDJ-RX’s four studio quality Sound Colour FX are inherited directly from the DJM-900NXS and feature a Lo/Hi Pass control for both channels: Noise, Gate/Comp, Crush and Filter. It also features eight of the most popular Beat FX and an improved wet/dry dial for even better control: Delay, Echo, Spiral, Reverb, Flanger, Pitch, Roll and Trans. Our take: When it comes down to it with navigation –which is obviously one of the core parts of the process of using the actual gear, and therefore one would think should be the smoothest process – things are oddly hidden and more options have seemingly made things harder to find. For instance, take the info button getting removed to a touch-only function, the sort-by functionality only being clearly accessible when you’re inside a specific playlist etc. In general, it feels again like more things were added, but without an information architecture plan to the user interface. Playlist Bank The FX controls on the Pioneer XDJ RX2 will be familiar to anyone that uses Pioneer club gear. With 4 Sound Color FX, you’ll have access to the most commonly used FX options like Filter, Noise, Dub Echo, and Sweep. Rachel: The extension of effect capabilities on the RX3 to include the entire range of 14 beat FX and six Sound Color FX from the DJM-900NXS2 is definitely a tally in our “pro” column, as being able to take advantage of all the effects without needing to own an 900NXS2 is a big win. Now with 900NXS2 favorites like Vinyl Brake, Helix, and Ping Pong, it removes much of the limits artists who love using effects in their sets may have had when using the smaller amount of effect offerings on the RX or RX2. If you’re playing out often on an 900NXS2 but practicing at home on an older RX, you may have found yourself only getting to know a few of the effects –and this changes that ability to utilize more of them, more often. Release FX with the Performance Pads

For Sound Color FX, the XDJ-RX2 has Dub Echo, Sweep, Noise and Filter, plus it has a Parameter knob for added FX tweakability. Meanwhile the XDJ-RR has Dub Echo, Pitch, Noise and Filter. On the Beat FX side, the XDJ-RX2 has loads more: Delay, Echo, Spiral, Reverb, Transformer, Flanger, Pitch and Roll, while the XDJ-RR only has Echo, Reverb and Flanger.

Take our support survey

Unlike with DJ controllers, these are hardware FX, meaning the clever stuff happens in the unit, not in the software (as of course there is no laptop attached running software…) Auto BPM did not work when selecting MASTER for BEAT EFFCT channel while selecting LINE/PHONO for Input. Next to the new screen you’ll notice that the navigation controls are lifted from the CDJ-3000. This will improve muscle memory for users of the industry standard media players who would prefer to have a compact system to practice with away from the booth. There are lots of features lifted from the flagship unit, including the Touch Preview function and playlist bank. Combine these additions with jogwheel adjustability and it’s clear that Pioneer DJ has designed the XDJ-RX3 to feel like a small booth setup. The Pioneer XDJ-RX2 is our best-selling DJ system and is a must-have for any artist looking for an all-in-one setup that comes equipped with all the professional features you expect to find on a high-end DJ controller.

Can be used as a stand-alone mixer thanks to multiple connections The XDJ-RX can be connected to additional CDJs or turntables using the switchable Line/Phone input and used as a stand-alone mixer. It also features a LAN port, two MIC inputs, two Master outs and a booth out – making it a versatile solution for any set-up.The XDJ-RX2 has a more premium jogwheel set that includes lights in its centre ring plus a more solid weighted feel. They’re also larger than the ones found on the XDJ-RR. The XDJ-RR’s jogs feel like a step-down, like something you’d expect in Pioneer DJ’s range of budget DDJ controllers, but nonetheless are very responsive. Note that both are still touch-capacitive, so you still don’t get the mechanical jogwheels found on a CDJ or XDJ media player. Performance Pads You can’t register aplaylistto multiplePlaylist Banks, though –not that you’d need to per say, but always good to keep in mind. Touch Preview I also suppose that all mixers(djm series)/controllers(DDJ series)/all in one units(XDJ series) made by Pioneer handle the sound in the mixer section (or in ‘standalone mixer’ mode with DDJ/XDJ controllers) in a digital way ?? In that case is this the right thing to say that Pioneer’s equipment will never be able to rival pure analog architecture that some competition mixer’s offer (for example some of the mixers made by allen and heath)? x USB ports: Easily switch between DJs and keep the music going with the XDJ-RX3's three USB inputs (two top-loading for USB devices and one for laptop connection), allowing for smooth handovers. There are numerous performance-related controls on the XDJRX3, including 14 Beat FX and 6 Sound Colour FX, adopted from the DJM-900NXS2. All effects from the RX2 are still present, with six extra Beat FX and two additional Sound Colour FX added. Now included within the 14 Beat FX are Filter, Helix, Ping Pong, Phaser, Vinyl Brake and Slip Roll, and within the 6 Sound Colour FX are Crush and Space. Release FX

Pioneer has also taken inspiration from their flagship models when designing this console. With professional features like Beat sync, Quantize, Beat Effects and Sound Colour FX, Loop slice (new), Hot Cue and many more, the Pioneer XDJ-RX will push your sets to a new level and help perfect your mixing technique. I am asking this as I am planning on connecting a pair of pure analog SL1200s and play music from real vinyl – if this is a digital mixer then I suppose that the benefit of analog (turntables) source (warmth and authencity of the analog) will be lost in ‘digital architecture’? Natural audio: The new audio design of the circuit board ensures that your audience will enjoy music as it is meant to be heard, without any unwanted external noise. In this Head To Head feature we’re pitting the Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX2 against the XDJ-RR. Both are two-channel standalone devices for Rekordbox, meaning you can spin using just a USB thumb drive that has all your music exported from Rekordbox, and you can also connect them to your laptop for spinning with Rekordbox DJ. The XDJ-RX3 includes all the effects from its predecessor, plus an extra 6 Beat FX and 2 additional Sound Color FX. So, you can play with the full range of effects from the DJM-900NXS2: 14 Beat FX including Ping Pong, Filter, Phaser, Slip Roll, Vinyl Brake, and Helix, and 6 Sound Color FX including Space and Crush.

Features

Is this unit in any way DVS compatible/expandable? I would like the have the option to use timecode vinyl on the SLs to control the software (particularly Serato DJ) and mp3s through this unit. The hardware felt v impressive. Solid. The platters felt great and the mixer felt high quality. I started mixing and learning my way around the unit.
