About this deal

A virtual private network (VPN) allows secure access to network resources and services across public networks. QVPN supports creating a VPN client, using the TVS-h874 as a VPN server, and WireGuard® VPN service with an easy-to-use interface for setting up a secure connection. QuTS hero is the operating system for high-end and enterprise QNAP NAS models. With Linux and ZFS, QuTS hero supports advanced data reduction technologies for further driving down costs and increasing reliablility of SSD (all-flash) storage. System Photo, Video and Music Station – Multiple file type tailored applications to access data in the best possible way that is suited to their output – along with smart searching, playlists and sharing For more affordable 4TB drives for gaming and/or content creation, that still deliver good performance and dont cheap out on the quality and longevity, ive opted for the Lexar NM790. This is made even easier to achieve when you loo through the official QNAP QM2 upgrade card range. The cards, with several new PCIe4 entries, allow to to scale things up in your storage even further with some featuring 4x PCIe 4×4 M.2 NVMe SSD bays or even a 2x 10GbE and 2x PCIe4 M.2 NVMe SSD Combo card. Currently there is no sign of a Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 Card (as seen in the TVS-872XT or TVS-h1288X), but this might well be down to the continued shortage of Thunderbolt components right now (as the Intel Core 12th Gen family has complete TB4 Compatibility).

PCIe 4.0 slots is a big win for QNAP here to differentiate itself from the recently released NAS from TerraMaster and ASUSTOR, though these NAS won’t be anywhere near as affordable. The HDMI 1.4b is a little odd considering we’re in 2022 and ASUSTOR included HDMI 2.0b, but it’s still good to have as a rear port for hooking up your TV directly. The actual number of virtual machine instances may vary by the memory installed on NAS (e.g. 1 VM= 1 thread for 1 vCPU and 1GB memory). Please expend memory if needed. QuMagie – Facial and Thing recognition application to help you retrieve, tag and catalogue photos by its use of AI to actually ‘view’ all your years of photos and let you search by the contents of them, not the file names. vJBOD and Hybrid Mount – Gives you the ability to mount cloud storage as a visible drive within the NAS (and the apps access it as if it was local) or mount a % of space from your NAS onto another as a virtual chunk of space to use Intel® Core™ i3-12100 quad-core/8-thread processor (burst up to 4.3 GHz), 16 GB DDR4 (1 x 16 GB) memoryI've also found some youtube videos of 4k hardware transcoding tests performed on this model and results seem pretty good.

We generally like the fact that QNAP is much more aggressive than its competitors like Synology on introducing new hardware generations. Intel Alder Lake is still the current generation and all of these NAS units use 2.5GbE. At the same time, not including ECC memory with the unit, but supporting ECC seems like a strange cost savings strategy since the price difference for low capacity 4-16GB modules is very small these days, especially as the industry transitions to DDR5. Real-time SnapSync immediately synchronizes data changes with the destination storage, ensuring the primary and secondary NAS always have the same data. RPO is minimal to achieve real-time disaster recovery. QTier – The QNP intelligent, multi-layer tiering system that works to optimize your SSD and caching configurationAre many users self inflicting heat problems, using performance mode on CPU, turning all power saving off and aesthetic cases with bad thermals? OEM systems are notorious for heat, as are the high end Intel CPUs. TeamViewer app enables remote management and connectivity to multiple NAS devices from Windows® PCs with an unparalleled level of safety, while increasing IT efficiency and end user productivity.

We also found a view of inside the system. Here we can see the dual M.2 slots: QNAP TVS H674 TVS H874 Internal View As nothing, not even the 990pro beats the SN850X in gaming related workloads, while the 990pro beats em all and even the SN850X in every other field. QNAP today launched its TVS-hx74 series. This new series has relatively new CPUs with Intel Alder Lake generation parts. This is part of QNAP’s line focused mostly on QuTS Hero, the company’s ZFS-based OS but it can run standard QTS as well. When we dug into the specs of these, we found a few interesting features. QNAP TVS-hx74 Series LaunchedFlexible PCIe Gen4 expansion - PCIe slots allow for installing 2.5/5/10/25GbE adapters, QM2 cards, or entry-level graphics cards to increase application performance. Multimedia Console – one portal access point to manage media access, searching, indexing and transcoding on your NAS device. Above are a few of my software overviews that cover the general GUI and system of QuTS Hero on the TS-h886, as well as RAID rebuild and storage management overviews of the system to give you some idea of what the TS-x73A range can and cannot do:
