About this deal

This woman is ruthless. She won't hesitate to leave readers devastated and tear off the veil that the readers and Orlaith were encompassed in to reveal how dark and merciless Orlaith's world is.

I understand the way her emotions work, she lived a sheltered life and was surrounded by specific people. She may come off as a bit immature to readers but I find that to be a natural characteristic of someone whose world is very small. I could understand why her thoughts and emotions worked that way. I also applaud the author for highlighting Orlaith's struggle with her identity especially when some secrets come to light. This book’s premise, so far, is nothing out of the ordinary in the romance-fantasy genre, but the storytelling is truly amazing. It is intentionally dark and mysterious, confusing even. I like the author’s writing tho. She doesn’t expose them early as this and that, but rather gives subtle descriptions about the world, the characters, and what they’re going through. Leaving it all to one’s imagination. It’s quite thrilling to guess. It does not mean that the Orlaith we knew in TBACB had gone through a 180 change and her character entirely changed. Not at all, our darling Orlaith maintains her tender and nurturing heart, her essence does not change but she starts to realize that the world she lives in is not a kind one and there are dark truths that must be faced.

Check-In

As much as I have enjoyed the sexual tension and chemistry between them, neither of them are ready for any notion of a romantic love. Orlaith must break out of her confines and let her world expand beyond her tower—and Rhordyn must face his own demons. As of now, they are not a healthy option for each other, not until that power imbalance shifts and for Orlaith to experience what the world, and not Rhordyn, has to offer for her. The healing of certain relationships was so well executed I can hardly explain it… but it was just what my heart needed. The way Sarah can tell a story is truly mind-blowing. It’s dark, it’s angsty, it’s beautiful and devastating and mysterious and leaves you thinking about it long after you’ve finished. I’ve tumbled into a darkness so deep it’s hard to see the light, my petals curling inward as I tip my face from the sun. Hide from my monstrous actions.

It was an unreliable narrator, & limited povs that gave you little tid bits & questions & you filled in the blanks… but what it really is, is something else entirely - it’s utter geniusBUT SHE IS FORGETTING SOMETHING SO IMPORTANT!!! Kavth made Irilak from his own Shadow. So irilak wouldn't be fearful of him, either. I continue to be in awe of Parker's craft and how she intricately carved Orlaith's journey from the beginning to where she is now. This book continues to prove what a brilliant storyteller Parker is.
