In June 2019, Joe Drake, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, announced that the company was working with Collins with regards to an adaptation of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Unlike The Hunger Games, Collins doesn't seem to have plotted out further installments. The ending epilogue feels final. Though there are characters whose stories are worth further exploration, the story of this book, and Coriolanus Snow's path to power, feels complete by the novel's end. Dave Cobb: There wasn't a whole lot of handholding to do. She's such a pro. Whatever we had with the pre-record, she beat it. She was so good, so real and so honest, and she made my life easy. I never truly emphasized with him (cause, hello, he was appalling) but he was riveting to watch and provided such an interesting perspective. To avenge the death of mentor Felix Ravinstill – the President's son, who died in the bombing – Gaul releases snakes into the arena. Coriolanus had secretly put a handkerchief bearing Lucy Gray's scent into the snake tank, protecting her while killing the other tributes. Gaul initially refuses to declare Lucy Gray the victor until Capitol viewers pressure her. After the victory celebration, Highbottom confronts Coriolanus with the handkerchief and poison and sentences him to serve twenty years as a Peacekeeper for cheating. Sejanus is similarly punished for entering the arena. Coriolanus bribes an officer to transfer him to District 12, where he and Sejanus begin Peacekeeper training. writing a rant review about a book whose main crimes are being boring and not as good as the actual series it's a prequel of. Snow’s snake-like charm made it difficult to love Lucy Gray by association. She was a very unique character that I found well-developed, but had a hard time identifying with. I think having insight to Snow’s character makes it hard to support any girl that finds him lovable. It makes her seem naive and foolish, although she was being played like Master of Puppets. I appreciated that she values trust more than love, and that realizing Coriolanus’ lie is what caused their fallout. I like to believe she was clever enough to get away from Snow and escape to the north! Since the book is from Snow’s perspective, he has to believe that she’s most likely dead, and we get to believe that she’s now a hopefully less dystopian, Canadian free bird.

When Coriolanus overhears Sejanus helping rebels planning to escape, he uses a jabberjay to record Sejanus' voice and sends it to Gaul. Coriolanus finds Sejanus talking to rebel Spruce, Lucy Gray's old boyfriend Billy Taupe, and his girlfriend Mayfair, leading to an altercation. Coriolanus shoots Mayfair and Spruce kills Billy Taupe. Sejanus and Spruce are subsequently hanged for treason while Lucy Gray and Coriolanus escape.
